  • Called thermal today, the guy was knowledgeable enough to know that they used to make a kit for Saturns but other than that he wasn't helpful at all with any sort of real information. I was having a hard time hearing him but I think he said they aren't making mufflers anymore. Only complete kits, so only what they have left in stock is what they have 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • Ouch. That's disappointing...

I bought mine in 2018 right off their website.

5 years is a long time I suppose

      • For what it's worth, the thermal sounds pretty decent with a full exhaust (cat included). When I ditched the cat and ran a 4-2-1 to a glaspack, then the thermal, it sounded kinda poopy after 4000rpm or so. With the turbo, 3" downpipe, and reducer to the thermal, it sounded great.

Turbos make the best mufflers 😉

            • I ended up making a resonator. It works well at cutting out 125hz. Around 100hz it still drones a little but it seems that interior drone from idle all the way to about 4k rpm has been reduced. I had the A/C on and the windows all the way up and it's definitely an improvement. If I made another one to cut out 100hz specifically I think all of it would be completely gone. However, space is a limiting factor.

              • Fitment looks good!

Throwing out ideas to your Brain here:

                * Maybe do a short weld or some clamp or bracket at the end of resonator as it may act as a tuning fork for lack of better words?

*also those rubber hangers look like shit and fully stretched. I know OEM quality tier are scarce but maybe find some of similar size you can buy new. That may help further.

*Also would be good to be able to see if clamped on weights if you got any sections of pipe that vibrate. See Toyota and probably other OEM exhaust systems.

Looks like you have about a 25 - 30 quarter wave resonator. I lost my sheet I calculated but yeah you're superclose as you've empirically found.
A true helmholtz typically attenuates a wider range of frequencies but with possibly less amplitude. But you'd have to see what your max diameter is and what you want to use for the throat diameter, dictated by available real estate of course 😔

oh, a v band clamp might be nice so you can easily dial it in with lengths.

That and/or get a friend to machine a tube and put a piston with a length of all thread affixed , and a nut welded to tube cap.

i Imagine your application is street car first, have you added any sound deadening?

                Keep going! !!

                • Also subtle flex using 304 sst pipe ... Are those cast 90s like for turbo flanges ?
                  lol

                  • Hard to see but yes it's welded in 3 places up top. Just used stainless round stock I had laying around.

Yes that one rubber hanger is trash I need to do something about that 😅

Yes it's thick vibrant 304 stuff we had left over from building RJ's manifold, definitely overkill but adds a little weight to the system to hopefully help some some vibrations like you mentioned.

The whole system is stainless just the bendy parts are cheap stainless 🤷🏻‍♂️

Pics are of RJ's setup we are building. He never posts so I'll probably end up posting it lol

                    • Nice looking setup . I noticed that pesky crossmember is gone too haha.
Nothing wrong with using Leftovers (lagniappe)!. Big fan of that, myself. I was just being silly 😁

Yeah the forum is forgotten these days, but since I deleted FB I don't miss the clutter of FB. Having difficulty getting that guy in the post on l300 ABS schematics since I. Can't upload more than 20kilobytes lol

Fyi ...if anyone needs S series or up to 2005 schematics or diagrams I still have factory service manual on my PC.
Id be happy to help, or try to.

That's a Mac valve. We will be using it for speed based boost control on RJ's set up. His set up is very capable, I'm hoping to see 400whp without having to push it too hard. So having less boost in the lower gears will be helpful.

                          • The driver side headlight of the Mustang is as clear as the day the car came off the lot. the passenger side light was as foggy as a Willie Nelson concert. So i buffed the one headlight today.

                            that is all
