Have you done a compression check on your motor anytime recently? Im interested in seeing what a motor with 190K would check out at. I know your running it and then doing it from scratch once that motor blows, just curious.

You'll all laugh, it's about 200 across the board.
Just checked it about 2 months ago. That's with the throttle plate closed.
Didn't do the leak test though. It runs great. I did nothing but add oil and change it every now and then.
Damn, thats pretty good then. Im willing to bet my motor with 140K would be a hell of a lot lower. (Not the original owner). But yea, you should ok for a little while I guess. I forgot how much boost you were planning on running.
A little less than 7 psi on this motor.
Yeah, I've had this car since it had 72k miles. Original engine.
Had two automatic tranny's in it before I swapped to a manual lol
But never a single problem with the engine. And it's been over-revved by accident many times (one time topped out the tach for a good second) since I swapped to a manual. Still got the auto computer. I hate it. No rev limiter But I love my 5-speed!
Your stock engine should last a while as long as the fuel is tuned properly with that small amount of boost. On mylast setup I ran between 8-10 psi with a bone stock 165k miles engine that had pretty similar compression (195 if i recall). I don't think it ever would have quit if it had the right amount of fuel.
I regretably was running an OBD1 car with only 33lb injectors, no controller. Even this seemed fine until I installed the auto PCM and started revving to 8k RPM. Slowly the car lost power and trap speed fell from 101-103 to 95 lol. Then one day she popped, broke the ring lands off the number four piston. never was able to hear detonation, though I'm sure it severely overheated the piston tops.
Car trapped 103 on its first time out with only 8 psi, with stock PCM in place. It was much faster revving to 8k rpm (was able to hold more boost between shifts) because of the large T4 turbo, but I never made it to the track before it blew.
my wife has the same wheels on her 98 sl. ebay specials.
I got mine off craigslist. Those are nice, I like them a lot.
The only difference is that mine are curbed to shit and corroded
I have an auto PCM because I did the swap and never bothered to switch it out. But no way in hell will I ever rev past 6500. I'm not building a track monster, but a quick little DD that will piss random people off every now and then.
I would personally look into alternatives rather than just using a SAFC1 to adjust fuel.
Eventually. Right now I just don't have the time to learn MS or some type of other fuel manager. Come summer, I will definitely be putting in MS and possibly another engine with lower miles. But I will use the current engine until it breaks.
shit, i cant wait to see it running. and even better the look on your face when you get into the boost for the first time. watching the boost bug bite is funny stuff.
I'm pretty jealous! Looking foward to your outcome... boost is still a long ways away for me.
'94 SL2: The Detail Junky (Will it ever run? Does it even exist?)
'95 SW2: The Daily Junky 3 (388k Champion)
'95 SL2: The Daily Junky 5 (aka Snow Junky 2)
Haha, I have no idea how I will react! I had three cars over the course of my adult life.
A Datsun Maxima '87 5-speed, a Honda Civic 2003 auto (was using my mom's for a while) and the 2000 SL2 that I have right now
I will have my friend video tape me during our first run of the turbo turd so everyone can see my face lol, it WILL be priceless haha. I remember when I first drove it after the auto-manual swap! I was like HOLY SHIT THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!!
