i'm a little late on making a build thread for this car
i already swapped it to a dohc and then built an engine intended for boost.
then the forged engine developed a bad noise which prompted me to build a 'spare' engine to run while i figure out what failed in the forged engine

had to go 20 over to make the bores straight cleaned and decked for straightness as well

decked for flatness, seats cut and cleaned in a giant dishwasher

this crank measured perfect and only needed some polish

    of course

    brand new cast pistons!

Makes me wish I was closer (or close at all!) so I could help you paint that motor and you could show me how to rebuild one! I know nothing about rebuilds but I have quite a bit of experience with paint

the last one didn't last long and i didn't even get the turbo bolted up

I've seen worse (anyone remember my '96 when it first got primered? Yikes.) but yeah, it's pretty bad bud. Next time, mask everything up, trim up the tape, and go much more thoroughly to town. Right now, far too many skimped upon sections and tiger striping.

Block looks a little better than the TCC though.

i wanted to get the engine and trans painted with just one can of primer and one can of spray

What Donnie said, plus you need to hit the different edges and angles from the correct angle to lay the paint down evenly. It looks like a lot of it was painted from side to side only, which will give you those thinly covered areas and will allow the paint to start drying before it hits the subject. Definitely hit with some more paint after you're done with it.

Edit - also you will need more than one can. I used one can of primer and about 2.5 cans just for my transmission.

                    Re: 94 sw1

Don't tape it. Spray the entire thing, then sand the raised lettering back down to metal. Only way to do it and have it look good.

I'd actually suggest going with a gray or bronze for it though. Something to make it "pop" from the block and head.
