  • 99 sl2 fixin her good: FAIL 2 weeks later... going under the Knife AGAIN

    well i have a 99 sl2 i'm a noob i've been learking for a while now... reading a ton of stuff
here's a pic of my car

    twin cam, auto, 205xxx miles

i was let go from my job and was getting a ton of shet done around my place and neglected my sl2.. it is the g/f's daily driver... i neglected to check the oil like i know i should (stupid oil eaters!) so one night the g/f comes in at her parents house and say's the car smelt hot and the oil light came on... F me so go out fill it up and later she goes out and starts it and it knocks pritty good so we drive it home and park it (maybe 5 miles) so been pricing things out and got a 94 for $250 + 50 tow to my house

pulled the motor out of my car

    and then the donor car

i am planing on parting out when i am done... i plan to take the stock sawtooth rims becuase i have all 4 and sand or get them sandblasted and paint them a gunmetal or darker silver with blue insets to match my 99

this sat i pulled the motor outa the 94 and started pulling it apart,

i pull off the pan and all ajoining parts to get to the crank and the thing is in beautifull condition i was plesantly suprised by finding the bearings in the lozer end look almost brand spanking new!!!

so yeah progress will continue i hope to have that crank in my motor by the end of the week and to have the 99's motor back in running shape and back in the car by the end of the weekend

Hold up there chief, you shouldn't need to swap cranks. The only ones you have to swap cranks on are the 91-92 IIRC.

I would probably just stick the 99 head on the 94 block and call it a day that way you don't need new manifolds etc.

If I weren't doing Ashley's car this week I'd drop by to lend a hand

      2003 Audi TT
      2008 Triumph Street Triple
      1972 BMW R60/5

and I boosted a saturn once. It was stupid and I want to do it again because I like pain and suffering.

Are the bores still good after knocking though? You're still going to have to check the oil then because you will have a good crank in a block with (assuming) bad rings

I'd just put the 99 head on the 94 or what ever bottom end and call it a day. Done and easier that way. plus safer if the other one ran fine and was good. As noted there is more to the 99 block now with the issue it had. I woulnt chance it.

Well i have been a busy busy man so pulled the lower en outa my motor and miked it out with 3 yes 3 different micrometers and all bores came back within tolerances and so i have cleaned everthing and preped all my area's for rtv and started assymbling as of 7 this evening my motor is back together and to be installed this weekend,

i then had a thought i have an extra block sitting in my garage, whynot rebuild it and then adventually drop that into the car so plan is
get a 99+ head(or swap someone who has one and wants a 94 head,)
pull out pistons and conecting rods clean, drill oil relief holes(like it should have been done from the factory)
              get a crank
do all new gaskets, timingchain, waterpump, oil pump ect.. ect.. and if eanything ever happens to the motor drop that one in if i sell the car by then sell the motor too

sucks having to push cars around especially since i have to put the white car back in the garage at the end of the night since the tabs are over due

In MN they're picky about that.. that's why I keep the SC2 in the garage while there is snow on the ground... that or last year in a family members second driveway out of view of the street with a car cover over it.

My area is so lenient on that kind of stuff. The 99 sat on the front street no plates or registration for quite some time...

I can understand not in the street. That makes sense. But, in your own driveway or property? That sounds like a neighborhood commity rule not a state law or county.
