  • 01 turbo satty, not so turbo now. Under new management! (pg9)

Guess its time to stop lurking and creeping.
Quick run down on myself, my name is Hans, been around saturns for quite awhile. I had this crazy dream to modify one when I was younger. Hey I've always been into different, and saturn is... different haha. Well time passes, I grow up, get a job, next thing I know I have money to buy a car. The whole saturn thing came back to me and I went shopping around for one. Then I had a wild idea to turbo charge one, realized I wouldnt know what the heck I was doing, so I ended up finding this site last march, I read for hours on end. ended up getting an account in july? so I could PM members some noob questions without getting my butt kicked by everyone hah.
But well, alot of time has passed, I've done my homework, and I'm still here to read daily.
Also, thankyous out to Yuki n Jason for putting up with my PM's, thanks for getting my feet on the ground.

    Well the car and parts:
    5 speed, 01 saturn sc2.
Going to be running a 2.25 downpipe(couldnt get a 2.5 to fit right) to a 2.5 exhaust split to dual, no cat, with resonator and dual fart cans.
Pretty much a mix of JDM and Chinese parts, I figured some of yuki's luck will make its way over here haha.
I'm not gunna list of any parts cuz your welcome to assume everything is foreign and bought off ebay.
Well the turbo is a Chinese basement made t3/t4, I forget the trim atm but its on the larger side.
I'll be running 30's injectors from a supra.
    Tuning with Wbo2,
I'm not sure weather to go with MS1 v3 or MS1 v2.2, suggestions?

    Part 1 goal(stock clutch and internals): 200whp
Part 2 goal(Spec stage 3 clutch and forged goodies): 250whp

This project build is probably being done differently from almost everyone else's,
The original idea was to take it to this custom shop and have them do all things welding. After that all work was gunna be done by me and a friend(he welds but doesnt like to).
Well I take the car to the shop and the owners son takes it on as one of his projects, after the first week hes way into it. next thing I know hes asking if he can see it through to the end. That means more money out of my pocket but now I know its going to be done right and my friend(hes actually 50yrs old) and my dad kept picking fun at me for this so it felt nice to have some one who wants to actually do it.
So now its turned into me as the brains and knowledge and him as the skills and creativity and tools.
And this is where we're at:
(see pictures, descending order of oldest to newest.)

I'm gunna keep updating this first post with random questions for you guys:
1st. Would you guys recommend Spec clutches for our saturns? If so, for my plan hp build should I go with a Spec stage 2 or 3?

I hate say it but theres a body kit involved...
I'm only 19 after all, I cant help it haha.

Quick run down, same guy(Cody) fitted the kit.
Front bumper was for the wrong generation so no fitted pics of it.
So here are some pics of the Evo 5 kit:

Re: Cossh's 01 satty - so it begins.

I would've routed the intercooler piping the other way so if you ever swapped to a 5 bolt motor and intake manifold it'd be a lot easier to switch piping. Hope all the chinese parts workout for you, make sure you have a boost cut off in Megasquirt if you're going to run that chinese WG...

      Good luck!

Skip the Spec clutch. From what I've read an ACT clutch is the only aftermarket one worth while.

Has the hood been test fitted to see if that is going to work? I foresee some clearance issues.

Re: Cossh's 01 satty - so it begins.

I swear he said he test fitted the piping and it fit... but now you got me second guessing. Both of us are concerned the WG might not fit... but hey yuki's fit so we're gambling on that.

As for act clutch, I did a really quick search and I couldnt really come up with a kit for 00+ saturn, but I only hit acouple links so I might just be missing something.

I dont think I'll ever go the 5 bolt pattern way, I never plan on making enough hp for it to really matter, so I didnt even think about the piping being an issue, but ty for reminding me about the boost cut off in MS, a 25psi spike wouldnt ever be fun...

                Just got done the exhaust:
2.25, downpipe(2.5 wouldnt fit at the angle the turbo was at)
2.5 all the way back, resonator, no cat, split to dual to two fart cans.
I definitely like the way they line up with the bumper.

I don't like fart cans, but with that body kit, it looks really good. Would love to hear what that sounds like. When you get it done, make sure to get a really good camera.

Heck yea I'm curious on the sound too, and even though I'm not a fan of fart cans either, they really saved the look of the car, I was starting to hate the way the bumper looked, but the cans fit perfectly, kinda like they belong.

Yea I guess the whole idea behind the project was to be 'different'
Saturn = different, Turbocharged sc2 = different, Rims = Plain(different), intercooler piping = different, Body kit = different... and rice haha.
Plus a saturns are great learning cars.

Hahaha! Yes exactly! lol. I could never slap a kit this ugly on a car without having something decent to make up for it... I cant stoop to being that much rice hah.

looks like a good start man! I'm not a big fan of the kit, but if its fitted and painted properly I can't rag on ya too much. Atleast you got something under the hood. keep up the work!

and I boosted a saturn once. It was stupid and I want to do it again because I like pain and suffering.

I think a bigger rim and a small profile tire will set off the kit even more. Those look like 15's or so with a fat tire. imo will look a bit out of place on the kit. But, i'm digging it. looking good.
