  • Joe & Chris's 96 fwd talon tsi (pics up)

Well me and chris (digitalDC89) decided to split costs and build up a dsm. I figured it'd be a fun project that we can do for pretty cheap. I'm going to look at the shell on friday with cash in hand. Just gotta get it towed out of there and find a place to keep it for a bit (too many cars at my place already). I'm going to find everything for this project used since people are always parting out. Not going to try and get anything new for this budget racecar if I can help it haha. I'm not looking to dump a ton of money into the car cause if I wanted to make a really fast DSM i'd find something awd.

Plans: make it go at least low 13's for ~$2000 including the car.

    Mods to happen:

    Evo 16g turbo
    FMIC w/ a good bov
    bigger injectors ~550 cc
    272 cams
    3" turbo back exhaust
apexi SAFC to tune temporarily, then to something better (dsm link?)
    MBC to run ~15psi
    some sort of lowering springs

That should be enough to make around 300whp pretty easy. These motors are built well and make power a lot easier than LLO saturns haha.

only downside with this build, is the fact that i have no prior DSM knowledge under my belt. good thing thats how it was with saturns to, lol.

this should really be a fun project for us to tackle, and i cant wait for it to get finished. cost and work will be split as evenly as possible, and hopefully will the driving once its done, lol.

Joe and I will both make sure to post plenty of build pictures, seeing as this one is definitely in no rush at all. hopefully we have a moving car by summer time.

building these cars are easy haha. And the aftermarket, oh god the aftermarket. I can get a brand new stainless 3" downpipe for 120 bucks lol. I do plan on buying a few small new things, timing belt being one. I've already seen what snapping a belt at 7000rmps can do. Also the good thing about being fwd is there's less chance of breaking stuff, but there will the chance that it'll constantly be breaking traction. I'll be trolling lvdsm.com quite a bit now, they seem to know there stuff and have a pretty solid crowd. That and my buddy andrew has lots of knowledge on these cars so that'll help a bit too.

well i went and got the title transferred yesterday, now gunna go pick it up monday as long as it doesn't snow too much this weekend. Now time to start looking for some go-fast parts! Pics when I get it out of the dude's yard.

Also may be going a little bigger than the original plans (stand by for bigger turbo update). Chris wants to gut the interior, so we may pull it and see what we can get for it. It's in really good shape opposed to the outside that looks like shit right now (peeling clear coat, mis-matched hood, beat wheels), but luckily I have buddies that can paint and get paint for cheap so we should be covered. My buddy andrew wants to do a 97-99 eclipse front end and pull and shave the spoiler holes (doing that for sure).

went and picked her up tonight, gave my buddy a couple bucks to trailor it home. Car is going to be at my buddy andrew's house for a while then probably moving it to a garage close by once it gets running to get working on it more and get some fresh paint on it. Going back out to work on it for a short while and hopefully get a few pictures this time since i forgot to bring my camera when we picked it up.

when i can paint it the right way for 100 bucks, i'm gunna paint it lol. It'll help a lot with the resale value too.

first thing we did was to get rid of that gay spoiler

possibly going to clean it up tomorrow and get the front end taken off, then get it scuffed to be prepped for painting. I already vacuumed up half of the interior since it was a little dirty from sitting. I'm seeing if I can find some wheels that aren't as gay as what's on there right now, hopefully some eclipse 5 spokes.

EEEWWWWW 2g. Well do a 6 bolt swap, with 1g big rods, P+P, remove balance shafts, arp's and the rest of what you listed and you will have a fun and quick car. I dont think you will get low 13's tho, maybe with link (which is stupid easy to tune), 650's and 20psi. My shop was mostly DSM crap when we started so I could tell you what to get and what to avoid for the most part.

i have a buddy who had a 12 sec 1st gen and he has a few friends with 11 sec dsms, i think we'll be ok lol. I'm not putting a junk 7 bolt motor back in the car either, fuck that. I'm not too worried about building the motor before it goes in, if it blows up, oh well pull it out and build it up better. Also probably going to find a 20g turbo instead of the 16g too, kinda want to go a little bigger.

And 2nd gen is definitely much nicer looking IMO, especially once the 97-99 eclipse front end goes on it. The headlights need to be replaced anyway, the pass side is broken and the drivers side is all faded and crappy.
