  • Omgitselvisc's 2002 Subaru 2.5RS Build Thread

Well I picked up Travis's (ProDarwin) Subaru 2.5RS Saturday and I will have to say that he did an amazing job with the vehicle's suspension.

The engine right now only has a CAI/LW Flywheel/ heavier clutch.

My goal with the Car is to hit 160AWHP N/A... yes it seems weak sause.

    Parts to buy

    Delta Cams (2000 grind)
    SRS-30 Reflash
Borla Header (Love that rumble sound)
    Some kind of Cat-back
    Hi-Flow Cat
2.5i Intake Manifold (If i can find one for cheap)

    LOL!

"I'm not modding the car. Just going to keep it a daily"

Since you are in TX, go for a custom exhaust. Single resonator/spiral flow behind the muffler and underbody dump. Save some weight, gain some power.

There is a company that makes a sheet metal manifold that can produce some pretty nice gains. DSP cars (na builds w/ stock cams) are making >200wtq IIRC

I believe N/A mods should be fine for a DD. (No crazy cam profiles or anything)

I saw that with 11.2 c/r, Standalone, 2.5i Intake Mani, 65mm TB, TWE Stage II SOHC Cams, Ported head with better valve springs netted the car with 230AWHP I believe.

But with the SRS-30, cams, and header-back i'm seeing dynos for 145-150AWHP

      edit: Dyno pic

The longblock was built entirely by TechWorks Engineering. "The recipe for the engine is less exotic than most would guess.", comments Tom Penner, owner of TechWorks Engineering. This engine uses our off the shelf 11.2:1 CR forged pistons, Stage II SOHC Street cams and headwork to maximize both velocity and flow. We consider this a Stage III engine build as it requires high-octane gas and stand-alone engine management, but simply lowering the compression ratio would still yield impressive output in a more streetable configuration." The TWE headers are a race-only 4-2-1 design, with large primaries. "The design of the headers was twofold: to provide power up top, and to lower dynamic compression in the lower RPMs to avoid torque spikes and detonation.", comments Tom. The trough in the torque curve from roughly 3000 to 4500 RPM is a direct result of the header design.
"I knew we needed to find a different intake manifold as the pre-2005 designs clearly are not meant to make power up top; this is a well documented.", comments Steve Sulatycki, owner of Zzyzx Motorsports. "Looking over the options, it appeared the 2005+ 2.5 RS intake manifold design was clearly superior and I decided to mate a high-flow 65mm throttle body to the '05 intake manifold. I had no idea what kind of numbers we'd be making."
"Once the car made it's first 220+ horsepower pull with very little timing and 11.5:1 AFRs we knew we had a strong motor on our hands. I proceeded to level out the AFRs to a very

i dunno i'm still researching, it's either the Apexi N1, OBX, STI Stock Cat-back, or Custom like ProDarwin suggested.

I'm still very impressed with the vehicle so i'll nutswing and take his suggestion

I agree on the N1 but I've also liked the sound of the Blitz and Cobb.

there's no real rush on things, I would like to keep this N/A until the entire loan is paid off and yada yada.

I may not go with cams but just open up the exhaust and do the reflash, but who knows i can never make up my mind with car stuff lol
