  • anti-rice 01sl2's project car

Well everyone else has one, so I figured I better jump on the bandwagon..

    Here it is:

    - 2001 Saturn SL2 - AT w/ AC, no cruise control, and manual everything. -

I bought this car in November of 2007. It had 73,000 miles on it. When I initially bought this car, I had fuel economy in mind, as well as a reliale backup form of transportation. After taking it for a test run, I was surprised at how "peppy" this little car was. Still I had no plans on modding it at all. A few pics of it before it saw a single wrench from my garage:

One view of her, sitting in the driveway:

    And another:

A few minor things were taken car of first...

    1) That rediculously ghey red pinstrip had to come off. It was kind of a PITA, but it came off.
    2) Secondly, I had to get rid of those stupid rims. Thanks Brian (Roundthirteen)!

Slowly I've been tweeking this car as I get the goods. First thing to go on was the WAI.

That set it all off. After that was installed and I heard the nasty growl coming from the filter, I was hooked.

              ok here we go...

[center:2yw13vkf]Rear Drum Brake to Rear Disc Brake Conversion[/center:2yw13vkf]

Well this has been a little project going on the side for a while. I've had a checklist for quite some time and I;ve been checking off the items as I got em. Basically here's the run down.

              - Rear knuckles from 93 SC2, completely dismantled, wired off with a wheel and die-grinder. Then painted with duplicolor black engine enamel.
              - New rear wheel bearing assemblies, painted to match and installed.
              - Two front and two rear calipers, brand new, painted blue with high temp brush on G2 Caliper PaintSystem epoxy.
              - Rear Caliper bracket salvaged, cleaned, and painted black with high temp brush on G2 Caliper PaintSystem epoxy. Same for the brand new front brackets. (For some reason you can get the front brackets from Vato-Zone and Murray's, but not the rears... I decided to start with the blue. So after I plugged off all bleeder holes, brake line holes, and masked off the pistons, they went onto the rack.

              Before:

              After:

Just to let ya know, this stuff is a PITA, but its the best you can get. After a patient, long double coating, the calipers dried to a nice glossy blue finish.

The next night, I did the caliper brackets in black. I also decided to do the e-brake bracket that mounts to the rear calipers in black. Man it takes longer than you might think.

And now, they dry. Tomorrow (if I get any time) I will contnue to tear down the brakes on all four wheels. Basically I'm leaving the old calipers hooked up. The new calipers will go on last along with the goodridge lines.

Where'd you get the calipers media-blasted at? You re-did those things in a matter of like a week haha.

You have too much shit to put on that car.

Let's just say I have a connection at the Milford Proving Grounds.. very nice sandblasting equipment..

As for the too much shit statement... I have nothing to say against it. I'm crossing my fingers to see some improvement. And the way I see it, I have all winter to work on it.

                          thanks!!

yeah tyler (gbrunner24) and I are working on the rear drums right now. these are proving to be quite a bitch. The outer drums are on there pretty good. Got one off, working on the other now.

Tyler did a quick porting job on his TB. didn't turn out too bad either.
