  • rebuild and turbo sc2

ok so heres my plans. i pulled the motor out of my sl1 and plan to rebuild it with forged pistons/rods to a twin cam. im going to try and do the most i can on a tight budget, pnp, larger tb, and a few other things. i also want to turbo my car. so my plans are in this order:

    --stock motor--
    1. intake, header, exhaust
    2. install a megasquirt
    3. larger injectors
    4. get together all the turbo parts and install when the rebuild is almost done
    5. dyno tune it at about 5-6 psi
    6. boost old motor until it blows or i decide to install the rebuilt

    --forged motor--
    7. run it n/a for about 1-3 thousand miles to break it in
    8. install turbo kit and dyno tune to 5 psi. run another 1000 miles or so
    9. boost at 10-13 psi and hope i dont get boost greedy.

i want to know if this is a good plan. im hoping to have everything done within the next 2 years. any input is welcome. im trying to do it right and take my time. thanks.

Well it looks like you're actually giving it a realistic build time. Honestly i'd just build it forged the first time around instead of building it then having to rip it back apart. Also don't bother with getting a header and an exhaust that's smaller than 2.5", you'll end up just getting rid of that stuff when the real build comes around. Otherwise looks decent.

well i already have the exhaust and im just going to put a 91-92 header and downpipe. but i think im going to do 3" exhaust and have it dump out just before the second 90* bend. as far as the turbo kit, i want to install it on the old motor first to make sure everything fits good and runs ok before i put it on the forged one. i would much rather have something break on the old motor than the good one.

That is actually a good idea that I wish I would have done. No sense in melting down a forged piston cuz your don't know what you are doing. Better be conservative and play it safe though, stock internals won't handle the abuse I throw at my forgies, and I still pitted a piston.

yea, i want to take it slow. i want to have the second motor almost done before i put the turbo on just in case something happens. i dont want to blow my motor and try to rush the rebuild just to be able to put it in soon.
