Project SOHC turbobox HAS a 5spd. (mo' pics, end)

Ok started in ernest today. Heres the old RallyWagon before going under the knife! She had some good days, but the frame is SEVERLY corroded under the LCA mounts, subframe is cracked, two TAM bolts are either broken or striped, it did run though!




Today i got the car way jacked up, clutch pedal out, the clutch hyrdraulics out, tranny mount out, got my make shift engine dangler hooked up, and shift cables disconnected. (it was 14*F today, but i was motivated, my goal is to have it in my wagon by April 2nd.)



Also started dismantiling the MP3 that was in the trunk! got stuck, ran outta time. (see my post in Tech.)

got the case off, NEED to get the diff. to the welder this week cause i can't work on it this weekend, so i'll pick it up next week to reassemble the first weekend in March (minus MP2 5th, cause its in the car still)

Gaskets, saturn guy asked what i needed them for, told him...then he didn't seem surprised at all when i said i was having the diff welded...funny.

Tomarrow i will have a shit ton more pictures! Diff is welded, have the clutch and flywheel outta the parts car. I'll have the "new" tranny with MP2 5th all rebuilt ready to go. Plus tomarrow night i'll be putting in the DOHC gauge cluster, and clutch pedal, and other two matching "saturn" pedals!
As seen here. (i thought they were actually machined aluminum, i was bummed, still cool though.)

It was a warm 35 degrees tonight, so the bulk of the dash, as well as shifter trim, and MS got pulled/moved so the pedals and gauge cluster can go in tomarrow, and the MS can get SPARK added! woo hoo for nice weather!

Think im still on course for the 2nd of April!

Got the tranny successfully reassembled tonight!! (at least it shifts through the gears manually, and theres no rubbing to be heard.) Wire cleaned a good chunk, but there is just caked on shit everywhere...so it'll be cleaner when its installed. I forgot my camera, so my brother is gonna send them along tomarrow. Sorry.

One thing, the bearing race from the MP2 5th gear was stuck onto the input shaft? i could not get that damn thing off....no biggie cause i just used the MP3 one....but is there a trick to pop it off.

Grabbed the clutch pedal and DOHC gauges to install tonight, BUT its still pouring out! I drove through a lake to get home I think.

Second question...i will not be able to stand seeing empty plugs in the engine bay after i swap...is there any harm in cutting all the plugs for the auto off and trimming wires back to the fuse box connection? Clean things up as much as possible.

^--Here is how you remove a transmission without lowering the entire subframe! Shit was rotted anyway, and it was starting to rain (and did for a whole day after that)

^--ACT street clutch. Agreed? Aluminum flywheel, can't find a brand on it anywhere.


^--Reassembled. Needs a little more wire brushing and im calling it good...no polishing here. hehe.


^--Tonight i had time to sit and solder. So MS is prepped for spark on the inside.

DOHC gauges are in, all three new pedals are in, and dash top all buttoned up. Then turned the lights on and found out the center most light is out in the gauges....poo...

Also put some old Eurolite high beam bulbs i had in the low housing....im pretty sure with how low my car is no one is going to notice (except me!! [img]{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_twisted.gif[/img] ).... we shall see.

sohc turbo power. i've been watching hisbuild for some time now. i started a sohc turbo build around the same time. but, blew the motor befor i was able to put it all on. then had to start over with a dohc and make some new parts. so, as it's been said i was saved from the sohc.
but, i still like the fact this is a sohc turbo sono to be 5 speed.
i'm not sure which trans he has but, i'd have to imagine a mp3 in this case would benefit the sohc turbo better.
