  • Xylaphobe's 1995 Sc2

I've been lurking around here for quite some time and finally going to get my self organized and get a build going. I'm not boost savvy and would like this car to be reliable, so N/A it shall stay.
I've decided to follow the Deebs build as follows:
    • any block will work, 99+ are stiffer
99 rods and pistons, pre-99 crank
01+ lower block brace to stiffen things up
valves are typically 91-93 flat faced version and use 98 valve springs due
      to
      increased stiffness
head isn't as important, stay away from 91 and 99+ stuff

This basic combination netted 133 horsepower at the wheels, which translates to 145+ at the crank.

That info was found way over on saturnfans.com

    Currently:
    • 1995 sc2, 5spd, black gold, 112,xxx mi

    Mods:
    • Ebay WAI
      Valve cover filter
PCV oil catch can (air compressor style)
'92 oem header wrapped and coated
Custom 2.25 inch mandrel bent exhaust
      Thrush glasspack
Magnaflow cat and straight through muffler
      A/C delete
Motegi Racing FF15 16x7 lightweight aluminum wheels
      Falken 512's 205/50r16

    What it needs
    • Passenger side body panels (due to an unintended guardrail interaction)
Passenger headlight assembly (due to previous owner)
New motor (burning oil since I got it)
      To get low (stock suspension)

I have a yellow SPS 17.5mm 4way rear anti-sway bar waiting for spring to go on with poly bushings and moog links.

    Motor
Now heres my intentions for the motor, following the Deebs build pretty much to a T. I have a pre-99 crank and a 96-98 head in my possession right now. I need a few things.
    What I need:
    • 99+ Block
99 rods and pistons (most likely get new hypers according to bore needs)
      01+ lower block brace
      91-93 valves (flat faced version)
      98 valve springs

I know a local machine shop that can do the machining and porting as necessary.
I will also use a Geo Storm GSI TB and do port matching everywhere.

id suggest with the 4 counter weight crank maybe throw a light weight flywheel also while you have it apart have have your difff pin welded unless it already is wont make the trany bullet proof but better than what it was

I was considering upgrading the flywheel, but we'll see how the finances are at that stage, Yeah, if I'm not mistaken there is a person on here offering welding service for differentials witch I will likely take advantage of.

                            Re: Xylaphobe's 1995 Sc2

I have a donor front cradle that I got from a friend's friend, not 100% complete and unknown but supposedly low millage. I'm totally rebuilding it so its not going to be a big deal because its getting bored out and decked so all the surfaces will be fresh.

                            What I'm going to use:
                            Block
                            Crank
                            Head
                            Cams
                            Oil Pan
                            Water Pump
                            Valve Springs
                            Lifters (inspect)

The water pump was replaced shortly before it was pulled so I'll take a look at it and likely reuse it.
I'm going to swap to a twin intake cams from my current motor but I want to have as little down time with my car as possible. So I think I'll, remove the nub/tab, build it with normal and swap it later unless its a real bitch swapping them while their in.
as far as valve springs could I get away with buying shims or just spring for new ... springs?
I'll probably scrap the autotragic, I don't know its history and wouldn't want to sell it to anyone. Anyone know how these fair as far as weight for scrap?

With the motor and auto I also got a front subframe.

If I wanted to remove my power steering could I just loop the lines from the pump to create a semi manual rack?

The hub and LCA look decent no major damage, I'll probably clean them up, paint em, and swap them for mine.

The axles were torn apart when the front subframe was dropped so theres a lot of grease on some of the stuff.

Just did some reading and I should definitely do the twin intake mod while its out.
So I'll have to get another intake cam and do it while its torn down.
