Specs:

01' block possibly bored .10 over or just re-honed (taking it to the shop on Monday to make that determination)

Ported and decked .30 2001 dohc head

99' or similar aluminum intake manifold

    Twin intake cams

    SDA hyperutectic pistons

    Scat forged rods

    Clevite bearings

NX wet kit 75-100 shot with all the fixin's. MSD digital window switch, WOT switch, etc.

That's it in a nutshell for now. Of course I'm still going to replace all the small stuff, i.e. water and oil pumps, fuel filter, timing chain assembly, etc.

      ***UPDATE***

Dropped off block and head at the machine shop this morning

Since I couldn't locate the proper valve removal tool he's going to remove the valves, clean the head and deck it .30

Checked out the block and decided it would be best to go .10 over

If all goes well, next week, we build.

Okay everything arrived this morning, only had enough time to oooh and ahh at the shiney pistons before it was off to the machine shop.

          Finalized Specs:

Block bored .20 over (50mm pistons)

Head has been stripped, cleaned, decked .30 and partially ported. Since the new high temp valve seals have to be installed with a press, the shop owner is porting the bowls at no charge so they can get the seals in for me. I'll take care of the gasket matching. He's also doing a valve job but I don't have those specifics yet, he said I'd be impressed.

Same shop will also assemble the rods/pistons/rings. Really great shop going out of their way for a 'small time' customer.

Dropped crank off to be micropolished, will be ready monday.

Going to the junkyard next week to pull a 99' intake manifold.

          Still waiting on bearings.

Got set back a week due to work but hopefully this week I can at least get everything home and begin assembly, even if it takes a little longer.

Still waiting on bearings to arrive. Guess that's what I get for trying to save $30.

              Re: 01' SL2 Rebuild

Major delays due to work. Bottom end fully assembled. Head finished, ported and cleaned. Waiting on timing chain and associated stuff to go with it. Aiming for a Friday finish but not counting on it.

Still not finished. Waiting on new oil pump cover bolts and screen thingy that goes inside the oil pan. Also waiting on new gasket kit, wrong year was sent. Just about everything unhooked from blown motor, looks awefully naked when not covered by parts and harnesses. Waiting for a weekend to borrow a friend's engine hoise and lift it out.

Also considering blowing income tax on 5 speed swap while everything is out.

                  Re: 01' SL2 Rebuild

Timing chain and guides are here. Still waiting on gasket set and oil pump cover bolts and screen. The girl at the parts counter at Saturn has forgot to order them twice now. Getting frustrating.

In good news... a friend I haven't talked to in a while heard about my project and is going to loan me his engine hoist. That'll save a lot because I won't have to rent one and won't be rushed.

                    Re: 01' SL2 Rebuild

Short photo set of engine and car as it sits now. No it's not done yet, very little time to work on the car due to school, homework, and work itself. Plus with gas being cheap I haven't been hurting as much to get it on the road. I have about $300 in new parts waiting to go on the engine, it's just finding time to do it.
