Well it was warm enough today and i didn't have anything going on, so i finally tore apart the entire spare motor I have had sitting around for a month. Bearings look a little worn, cylinder walls are nice and clean though, and besides being a little dirty it's not in too bad shape for having 142K miles on it. Will be ordering all new gaskets and seals, pistons, rings, bearings. All that stuff will be stock, however I should be getting a set of SDA cams shipped to me next week as well as some SDA valves. Now i just need to decide where i'm going to get the head decked, ported and polished.

      Re: 96 SL2 build up

Well all my gaskets came in for the new motor along with bearings and head bolts. I got the intake manifold cleaned up decent and ported the opening for the Storm TB. The head has been cleaned up, now i just need to send that and the crank to a shop to get finished. Just waiting on a few small things and the motor should be together shortly now that i have much more spare time without schoolwork to do. Don't have any pics of the motor, but here's some of the outside:

            Re: 96 SL2 build up

Updated master list. Here's some of what's to come for the new motor I'm currently building: all new gaskets/seals, SDA cams and high flow valves, ported and decked head, slightly ported and cleaned IM, new stock pistons/rings, polished crank, new OEM clutch w/ fidanza flywheel. Once i save up some more cash I'll be juicing it as well. For that I'll have to do some more research first though.

Edit: I'm done porting out the opening for my IM, and have the intake side done on the head. Now onto the exhaust side! New pics soon.

                  Re: 96 SL2 build up

New exhaust stuff started showing up recently. Also my cruise PCM should be here soon so i'll be rocking cruise control finally. Also replaced my CV axle today since the new one ripped and spewed grease EVERYWHERE!!!

Car is finally running at 100% with no major issues for the first time in months. Feels good.

Re: 96 SL2 DD build up

New pistons have arrived along with new oil pump, CV boot, timing chain, and a few other little things. Porting and polishing on the head is all finished, along with getting it decked. Just need to rent a valve spring compressor and the head can be reassembled. I need to get some updated pictures up soon.

Re: 96 SL2 DD build up

Update: Cruise is in and functioning correctly. New exhaust will be going on at the beginning of next week finally. After that it will be time for some new tires and fix my warped rotors. Cleaned up the engine bay by painted my header and intake and just wiping everything down.

The i got the block honed and rotating assembly for the new motor is all together along with a few other small pieces that i could throw on without having the head all together. The porting and polishing is all finished up. The motor is all clean, but i still need to get the valve train together.

checks the thumbnails, sorry i didn't resize em.

New stuff: full 2.25" high flow cat, 30" glass pack, mandrel bends 2.5" straight through muffler w/ silencer. Nice, quite and throaty, just how i wanted it.

Yeh, i still need to wash it. At least the muffler is shiny.
