  • one of my flips

99 sl1 with 90k bought for $700 drove it for 3 months, then re-did it and sold it

    how i bought it:

    bought a 96 sl2 with no title but good wheel/tires, good interior, good motor/tranny.. rust all over the place for $300 pulled motor/tranny for my $500 01 sc2(another flip) and swapped trunk/front doors/ignition/front bumper/carpet/wheels and tires/door panels/seats/etc into my 99 sl1...

    pics of the destruction:

forgot to take pics of re-install of new stuff but it looks good i promise

    pics of paint prep:

sprayed the car outside in my driveway:

finished product: no wet sand, no buffing, and that's $15 worth of single stage tractor paint

sold it 3 days after listing it for $2200 with 97,000 miles

What part of it looks good? The paint looks to have a terrible finish to it, like a spray can job.

that was all before wet sanding and buffing... i don't have any pics of it after, but there are no lines or anything in the paint, it laid down pretty smooth and for $15 worth of paint, i don't expect much more than that...

here is another car that was tractor painted... this is from like 6 years ago though from when i was still in autobody school... i also didn't wet sand or buff this one either... too much time/work... i just prefer to lay down a really good wet couple coats and you really don't have to unless you're looking for perfection... there is also no clear coat on either car

for $30-$40 you can get a gallon of this singlestage semi gloss paint, and mix it 1-1 with lacquer thinner, and it sprays amazingly... just like real automotive paint, but a hell of a lot cheaper, it's a great way to do a quick cheap paint job on a car that you're trying to sell... $40 gallon of paint, $15 gallon of laquer= 2 gallons sprayable paint... which is enough to paint 3-5 cars... they actually make a catalyst now since people had been using this paint for automobiles and not just tractors, and it makes the paint harder, dry quicker, and more glossy... and it's about $20

Wow you painted those non-paintable bumpers? Those guys who bought it are gonna be mad. Example of that over time =

There is a right and a wrong way to paint those bumpers. With good prep you can pretty much paint anything. Even my sisters SL with painted bumpers are peeling since the prep was terrible. The guy who they bought it from flips cars just like boosted, but in PA.

                    Re: one of my flips

as stated.. there is a right and a wrong way to paint those bumpers, that is why they were taken off the car and painted separately that the rest of the car because they require additional prepping

                      Re: one of my flips

Not too bad. I flipped a 99 escort a couple of months ago and had to get some body work done. I'm not good at it and we have a body shop at the dealership so I paid one of the painters *broke and going through a divorce* about eighty bucks to straighten a fender, hood, door and quarter panel *and paint of course*. I made sure it was done right. Thats just how I operate. BUT for the price you're selling that car for, overall the customer can't bitch too much. There is a decent chance someone will scrape the bumper before the paint starts to flake so it'll be a body shop's issue then. Not bad overall. I'd like to see pics of the interior and exterior after you were all done. It looks OK but better pics would be nice.
