Scapper came and took it away today. Actually managed to lift it in there with an engine hoist and chain.

Bit of history on the SWP Model

Besides the driver being located on the opposite side to other North American automobiles, the Saturn SW RHD model maintained much of the conventional wagon's equipment including the brand's trademark dent-resistant polymer body panels. Offered only in a single trim level for all three years of availability, the Saturn fleet wagon came with a 1.9-liter dual overhead cam engine generating 124 horsepower while producing excellent fuel economy. Along with the inclusion of air conditioning, power windows, security system along with AM/FM stereo as standard equipment, the 1999 Saturn SW RHD also featured a driver's seat with adjustable cushion height and lumbar support. Options available on the SW RHD model included cruise controls, roof rack and anti-lock braking system. With the rear seats folded, up to 58.2 cubic feet of cargo room inside the wagon functioned well for postal duties.

More Progress: started pulling the dash away and disposed of some more stuff that wasn't necessary of the front end section to make this all easier to get at.

Removed the heater core and associated structures. I'm down to the cross bar and firewall at this point. I picked up a spot weld cutter and have been attacking it with that for now. Spot welds suck but it looks doable eventually.

Update: drilling spot welds sucks. I went through a lot of bits on the dash cross bar and steering/pedal support sections. I think this was mostly due to the angle I had to attack some of them from which is where I broke the most teeth on the bits. I ordered 2 13 packs of reversible bits that should be here before the weekend so I'm hoping the firewall goes smoother since it's a straight shot by comparison. It's upside down in the picture here because it was easier to get at stuff this way. This section of car that remains is light enough to flip around any direction I need at this point which is really nice. It's letting me get a better look at some of the parts I'll have to deal with on the SC2.

On the SC2 I will probably sawzall most of the cross bar away to get better angle at stuff but I needed to keep these RHD components in good condition.

The plan is to basically just tack weld it all back in place and put some reinforcement plates in certain areas as I go where some of the metal is thin. You can kind of see how the cross bar is boxed in with spot welds in the first picture.

A cheaper option, if your drill area is only a little tight.
Amazing deals on this 3/8In 90 Deg Angle Drill Attachment at Harbor Freight. Quality tools & low prices.

That angle drill attachment would have helped but the stuff I have left is going straight on so I think it'll go smoother now. I've been drilling a hole with a small bit, then using https://www.harborfreight.com/38-in-...ter-63657.html which seems to cut them fine when I get a clean shot at them. I made a bulk order of bits

You're making me dread the day I have to drill spot welds in my Suburban. I have two spot weld bits at the ready and I'm not sure they'll be enough. Maybe you can blast them out with a plasma cutter.

Yeah it's not a fun task. I had a couple bulk packs come the other day though so I'll probably start drilling it out tonight finally.

Starting to get some firewall separation. I picked up a windshield removal kit last night to attack the remaining adhesive which appears to be all that remains holding it together at this point.

The spot welds on the firewall went much smoother since I had a clear shot at them as opposed to the dash.

Gonna have to go for a RHD cruise when the borders open up.

Looks like a sweet project, and for the record I miss that convertible. It was a neat feeling being in the back when we went for a drive lol.

When you had the front clip separated from the rear all I could think of was those redneck videos where people drive the shit outta their half car

Looks good so far, crazy how meticulous it is for a simple idea but i guess we all know that going in. And I know you follow through with projects, so im looking forward to how this build goes!

I got the remainder of the firewall removed this morning. It involved a lot of spot weld drilling, chiseling, and prying. The final step was basically a heat gun and standing on parts of it and pressing hard. Imagine a metal windshield that's welded in there in 40 or 50 spots..

I think my plan at this time is to attempt to modify the LHD firewall first before removing it. I figure that if I damage it or it doesn't work I can still swap in the RHD firewall in.

It's doable, I just really don't want to do another firewall removal.

I wish you good luck with modifying the LHD firewall.

I honestly think i would rage quit about half way through the first one.
