  • Project This Car Needs More Power

Car is an 89 Honda Civic 3 door. Bought it for 250$. It has 306k on the original engine. The clutch is about toast too. I dont want to spend a whole lot on the car as its got rust and will probably only last about 3 more years before its devoured by it.

    Pics:

    Plan:

Budget built sleeper. The engine Im spying for it is an 88-89 D16A1. Mainly because its an EASY swap and I can use the stock 5spd that came out of the car. 118hp and 101ft/lb. Its the only dohc d series. I thought about a b swap but it wouldnt be worth the time or effort considering I dont really have any serious power goals and it would cost 100x as much as the A1 swap. The stock engine is a D15B2, it supposed to have like 90hp but in reality its more like 40hp. The trans thats in the car has REALLY long gearing which wont be great for acceleration, but thats where boost would help out and benefit a TINY bit from the really long gears. The harness needs to swapped to a mpfi. Not sure what clutch I want to run, deffinately something sprung because I drive the car A LOT, trying to keep the miles off the redline.

For boost Im going this route:

    -Cast Mani
    -T3 super 60 or a T25/28 internal gate
    -Cheapo 2.5" DP and Exhaust
    -New aluminum radiator
    -FMIC and piping kit
    -Recirculated BOV of some sort.

Management will be either chrome or hondata, leaning toward chrome. 42lb injectors for fuel, might need a missing link, not sure still researching that.

Want the car to still look like a cheap roller skate on the outside, steelies and all. Quiet and contained with 200whp on tap in a car that barely breaks 2100lbs. Looking for a low 13 pass. Keeping it on the cheap side because I drive it everyday, it sees a lot of snow and it'll be parted out eventually. I do want an exhaust with a rice cannon though, they look hilarious on these cars lol.

Looks a little gnarly, but overall not too bad.
Good plans too, you can probably swap and boost for ~$1000. But why a recirc. BOV?

Change of plans. Most likely going with a D15b vtak swap because its a hell of a lot cheaper and nets the same power. Plus I get vtec, cmon!

Should be fun. I've down a few turbo honda's and they are little beast.

means nothing without knowing his other mods and size of turbo.
