  • Rear Strut Bars for 1g Wagons

I was talking to Sean and he asked if I could do this, so this is it. You guys give me input on exactly what you want here, and as soon as I get done with the tranny mount buy in I can get started on this. I do currently have access to a wagon BTW. If they stay simple Im guessing I can do these in the $100 neighborhood.

I am gonna just add a list for those who are interested in this for the Wagons.

    2. Silent Bob
    3. PaladinMan187
    4. therealm0rh0us
    5. PlastikAvenger
    6. Tim T (if it will work on a 2nd gen wagon)
    7. DTDSasquatch (if it will work on a 2nd gen wagon and then still a maybe)
    8. Sentein
    9. Psw71
    10. Starrsaturn (interested)

Oh yeah, something that has needed to be done for a long time.

I know simple works for me, just a nice, straight across, one piece welded bar. We could make a one time easy buy-in since there will probably only be like 5-7 people interested in this one.

I've been waiting for this. I would like something that goes with my Sprint front bar but will go with what everyone else wants since I'm just looking for a 1 piece bar. Tried using another Sprint bar but the rear is narrower. Name your price, I'm in. Also can we make sure this works for folks that plan on keeping their interior? Don't mind cutting out part of the plastic if needed, but hopefully it will be low enough to the seam we won't have to cut a whole bunch out

Yeah I told him I wanted the mounts to clear the interior pieces so all we need to do is just cut the clearance for the bar as it leaves the mount, nice and clean.

I dont think that will be a problem after we looked at your car the other night bob, there is plenty of room.

I too like the idea of a double tube bar running straight across (no clearance needs for angles, like the front bars) or a wide, flat bar. Either way, a welded one piece is the way to go, it might be a tight fit but that is what we want.

Like I said, prefer double round bars but not picky. I'm sure other may not have a double front bar they are trying to match. I'm just weird like that

I agree. After talking about this with you I think a double round tube (like the Sprint/Amr) bar that just goes straight across between the mounts would look nice and function well.

Re: Rear Strut Bars for 1g Wagons

                          Here is what Bob and I have been talking about, here are a few pics of the Sprint front STB;

We have been thinking of a bar to kinda offset the front Sprint/Amr style, using two tubes, parallel across and welded to two mounts. Now, we don't need the mounts to be like these pictured, we need them to be round so they are able to fit underneath the interior plastic parts. This way we only have to trim to allow the bars themselves clearance to exit.

We also don't need them to separate or be angled, as most of that is for the under hood clearance up front (unless it would be stronger but I think the bar running straight across woud be fine). There is nothing but space back there so a straight across bar should be fine, basically from the base of the mount straight across to the other base.

                          Close up of the tubes.

This is a non-Saturn mount I found that kinda conveys what I have in my head. Just two angled mounting plates to accommodate the tops of the strut towers and then two bars across, instead of the single bar pictured here. (but not as cheesy as this one lol)

So that is what I have in mind Andrew along with another small add for the bar I want but others may not be interested in, I'll talk to you about that.
