• Wagon Rear Bars "options"

Okay guys i am looking for ideas on what you are looking for, for a rear strut tower bar for your wagons. I know there are a couple of you out there. I have a couple ideas but give me some options or looks you may want. I would like to do a prototype before having anyone sign up for a buyin. To be cost effective i would be making these from steel. I can get aluminum done, It just means they may be a little more expensive. I do not own a TIG Welder. Just give me some input.

I also do not want to hear that pimped already has a buy in started for these. I am trying to help. If you have nothing constructive to add to this post please leave without posting!!!

You won't hear shit brother, don't sweat it.

Andrew has been busy with his other buy-in's and his life as well, I am sure he will not care one bit. It was only going to be a small amount since there were like 7 or so people interested anyway.

Do your thing man.

I think the big thing will be if you can make them fit 1 and 2 gen wagons. I can measure my 2g if you need.
Also I think it would be awesome to be at the level of the rear seat and if the bar could be removeable. Like if the brackets come just out past the plastic trim and instead of a bolt on each end of the bar use some quick removeable pin.

Thanks Seann

Also good info, I will take some measurements for the first gen in the morning. I also hope to take pics. If i can i want the same measurments as in the pictures.

I may make two versions depending on the intrest in each. If there is enough for each version i will do them both. I am thinking a solid 2 bar. Also the quick pin version sounds like a plan. I can make the quick pin 2 bar also, Thinking of a pin a side though. What do you guys think?

Re: Wagon Rear Bars "options"

Originally I was all about a solid bar, but now I am using my wagon for something that requires a big bin, so I am having to unbolt my bar from the center. A quick release setup sounds like something I might be interested in now.

Jon probably would too, Bob may as well.

I would be game for anything, been waiting and waiting. Would prefer a solid bar. I had thought of a removable bar before but not sure how it would work with trying to keep the interior pieces in

1. Make it removeable
2. Put tie-downs on the bar
3. Do not use pins. Use thumb-screws or some other threaded hardware. Pins won't be tight enough tolerance.

This was my concern before and why I was wanting a one piece bar. Now, since I am actually using my wagon's rear area as of late, I am more interested in seeing a functional and quick release rear bar setup for sure.

i was talking about the twistec style ones or whoever made them a while back. where its like an adapter for a front bar to mount on the rear strut towers. im just thinking this could stir up alot of intrest seeing as it would be open to more models and gens. at least i think. idk if each model/gen would have different demensions.

I'd be interested in a quick release but would it be any better than the $20 bar off of ebay where I could just disconnect the bar from the actual mounts with the allen key head? I realize the plates that mount to the strut towers would need to be drilled out in the rights spots but I did that in the back of my SC2 with no problems. I guess I'm afraid too of the cost of the quick disconnects... d'oh cheap Saturn owner mentality again... but seriously I paid less than a grand for my 95 wagon, and that's including the junkyard parts to bring the interior up to acceptable levels.

This is what is in my wagon now, the ebay bar with the tall coupe/sedan rear brackets. In the wagon, this brings the bar up above the rear seats (which I don't like) and yes, it's not terrible to remove the bar by the hex nut and bolt but a quick-release setup would be much more convenient. Mounts that were designed flush would put the bar behind the seats (and so I can put my plastic strut covers back on) and out of sight, then a quick-release setup would just make it much faster if I need to yank it to put something in the back of the wagon.
