  • Possible group buy-in: 2g vent pods

So, Tristan and I have been communicating to find someone to continue making these things. So far we've had no luck.

    Until now.

I have a friend who owns a performance shop that has a machinist buddy that might be able to hook us up. I'll get Tristan to send me a CAD or measurements or something. Or even a shit ton of pictures to bring the guy.

Just a feeler for now, do we have any interest?

I don't know price yet, because I haven't talked to the guy. I don't want to go all up-ons and get everything rolling, then need a group buy and have no interest. There's a good chance that these v2.0 vent pods will not be plastic, but some sort of steel.

This is in the general discussion section over at PR, if you post in either one of these threads, I will update them both.

I just picked the 2 prototypes up. I'm glad he didn't charge for them. They are not usable. He did a quick and dirty interior design after he got the outside dimensions right. I'm going to test fit it in a car thats sitting at the shop I work at tomorrow to see if it will stay in place with a snug friction fit. The funny part was that the basic and barbaric interior design he did just from my verbal description is dead on match for the pic of the 2 black ones someone else posted. I gave him a notepad drawing of what I needed with 2 circles drawn in the middle of it. I'm going to go up and see him sometime next week and get details hammered out for a 1st run or a beta prototype that I'll fit a pair of gauges into and slap into someone's dash. Sorry Scotty, you might get one of the next 2. I'll keep everyone posted on how this is going to work out.

    Details so far

    1. Material is probably going to be aluminum. BUT that is not definite.
    2. Cost will be in the neighborhood of $20.00 each plus shipping. I do not have my paypal account working yet but thats probably how I'll end up doing this.
    3. The openings for the gauges will be 52mm ID.

If anyone thinks of any other issues I need to hammer out before I get version 2.0 in the works please PM me.

Steel would probably suck for the winter time heat blowing and the summer heat.

That's what I was thinking (just steel in general being a bad choice), but I'd rather run it than have to run a pillar pod or something.

Tristan, why can't you get them done anymore? I forget.

Yeah steel doesn't sound like the best idea. I've wanted one of these for a long time and I'm getting ready to make my own. If you can get some of these knocked out within the next month I'm certainly in. Otherwise I'm going to find another solution.

Count me in if you can make it out of black Lexan or other durable non-metal.

And it's less than $40 shipped. (cheap ass saturn owner)

So are these for mounting guages in the center two vents above the radio?
