• Lord Dynaflex rod ends for torque struts

[edit] I can put you in touch with a Lord representative so you can buy 4 of these for ~$100 so you can make up two torque struts for your car/project. This company really doesn't sell in low volume to individuals but seems willing to sell 4 at a time. I bought 8. There is a warehouse that has some in stock but that may not last. If few people get together then the cost could go down. [/edit]

Original Post:

When I was engineer at CASE (designed skid steers & trenchers) we used lots of Lord isolation products. They are a good company with top notch engineering.

I know that there are great polyurethane dog bones and even sexy billet torque struts available.

I came across these (scroll down) while looking for conventional spherical rod ends and spec'd some I thought would work for a torque strut. I plan on using two J21270-24 with a short threaded rod between them and using washers to adjust the length and orientation. I'll have to use 1/2" bolts and short pieces of tubing to center the strut in the mounts. They are rated at 270 lbs so if we assume ~1ft lever arm then it should take ~270ft-lbs of torque. That should be plenty, right?

I contacted Lord and they are willing to sell me 4 J-21270-24 rod ends for 24.85 ea. + shipping. 100 bucks & change for 2 dog bones sounds pretty good. We'll see...

I am not sure how well these will work but I'm going to try some. I'm hoping for something better than stock but not quite as harsh as poly dog bones. They came down on their price and were very helpful. Lord is a good company. But these mounts may not work out. The application has not been tested.

If you want in then PM me for the specifics. I'll be ordering by Friday 4-10. Or you can wait until I test them in my DD and re-order some more in a few months. I'm not supplying the threaded rod. Just the rod ends.

No real surprise that there was little interest in this since there are already some pretty sweet torque links (aka dog bones) out there. I just installed these on my wagon as part of a manual swap. I used a spacer on one and washers on the other to adjust the length and get the 2 ends lined up. They feel pretty good and not rattle-y at all. I'll see how they hold up on the NA DD. I have another set to put in my project car which should have more HP someday. Total cost for 4 (2 per link) was around $100.

Dogbones should be the same length for upper and lower. Looks like yours aren't? What was the total cost for a set?

Keen eye, there! I decided to tilt my engine .5 degrees for better performance. <=kidding, LOL. I matched the lower one to the stock ] weighs in at a little more than half of a typical stock bone.

Curious to see how these hold up.
What metal are they made out of and do you know the hardness of the rubber bushings?

how would tilting your engine yield better performance?

never heard of it, so that's why I ask

they look cool though. I wanna see a 1k after pic. see how the bushings break in.

also, are the bushings replaceable?
