• Aluminum cast parts

Just thought I'd throw this out there.

I've got access to a foundry and I'm welcome to pour whenever I want. We mostly do aluminum, but also iron on occasion.

Anything here would likely be a "one-off", not much of a group buy necessary.

I couldn't really think of anything in particular, but if you can think of something, shoot me a PM or mail me a blank and we'll work on it.

I can do some machining as well.

what would we have to provide as far as specs? dimensions? CAD drawings?

Really depends on the part, I guess. The best way would be for you to make a blank out of wood or styrofoam, something I can use to make a mold out of.

Possible, but would require an awful lot of machining. If you're going to build a throttle body, build a barrel or slider style

You laugh, but we do lost foam casting, just like Saturn did...haha. I'm not sure we can do anything that large though. Build a new head out of styrofoam and I'll cast it...haha.

And don't forget when you do that, to make the part slightly oversized. There should be some suggestions on the internet somewhere about how much bigger to make it.
I need something in the bottom.

actually a redesign would be better. maybe loose the angled ports andd raise the chamber?

Of course. You can build that into the mold a little bit too. Aluminum shrinks about 2% in the mold, IIRC.

I can't think of anything either...what would be an ideal part that we all would want AND is fairly simple to make?

                        Re: Aluminum cast parts

I have some experience designing castings. Pretty good at CAD (Pro/E) and could even CNC some patterns. I guess it depends on the part. What casting process can you do? Who will do the finish machining?

if you can do iron as well, i vote for a turbo manifold.

or cast iron turbo "U" adapter pipes (like the one on pimpedSC2's "less ridiculous" SC) to bolt on a turbo using the stock cast manifold.

A Chevrolet 5.7-liter LS1 V8 with this much specific power (horsepower per cubic inch) would be making 2,137 hp
