  • carbon fiber trunks for sale

this is not like the other buy-in that is never going to happen, i am working with a company that makes actual molds and lays carbon fiber, not a wrap(although they do that as well if wanted) but they make real carbon fiber products... i am working with them on a price/sponsorship for bulk orders... they are currently in the process of making a mold for an 01-02 sc trunk panel, i have no idea what the price will be just yet until they make mine first... once mine is done, they will have a mold for 3rd gen sc's and those would be first to be sold, next would be up to the forum to decide, the more people that want to get a certain gen/body style would be the next in line unless there are 10+ on multiples, i will keep this post updated as they update me, and be timing this company to see what their turn around is because i know how this site is with buy-ins that take forever... i will not be collecting any money for this buy-in until i have seen mine and i'm satisfied with their work... i will also supply the company with stock trunks for whatever gen is decided on after mine goes through...

so this isn't an official buy-in just yet, i just want to know who is serious about buying them once the first model is made... as of right now price will be anywhere from 300-700 each is the estimate... also depends on the number of people buying, etc. but once they finish the one for my car, and have an estimate number of orders for other ones they can give a more accurate price, but 700 is extremely high end, and 300 is pretty much the lowest... prolly in the 500 range... please just post if you're interested and would have money ready and available for this once the time comes

Is this for a full trunk, or just the bolt-on panel? Does it replace or keep the reflector panel? Keyhole? Does it account for the trunk springs in any way? (though this is most likely not necessary if it's only the panel) Does it integrate the lip spoiler or provide holes for it?

Is it by Fiber Images? I have one of their 3rd gen trunk panels. Not bad but they really need a better clearcoat

        Really?? Pics?

And what are the chances they can do a hood too? I can't get my hands on a 3rd gen Sedan hood anymore now that SMS went under.

not fiber images, it's more of a local company that has been making one off type things, i've asked them for pics of some of their work... as far as i understand, this will be a full trunk replica of the oem one meaning key hole and reflector panels and everything, but i wont know until they give me some updates....

as for the hood, they say they can make anything, i was thinking of trying to get them to make something easier first like a top dash cover or something of that nature, but i didn't know how many people would be interested in something like that, but if they can make a good quality trunk, the i'm sure they can do a hood seeings as there are way less bends, curves, etc to a hood

Re: carbon fiber trunks for sale

here is the email the guy sent me earlier today describing price/quality:

OK that sounds like a good plan, now here is how we begin i need to know what you and the others from the forum are looking for, meaning i have a series of CF styles, i have built simple wraps all the way up to F1 aerospace cf parts so here are examples and price range parts starting from wrapping all the way to F1 parts,
wrapping, cheapest way of CF gives slight structural integrity to the original part, taking the actual part (trunk) spraying a gel coat on it and wrapping it in CF then gel coat, this simply is for cosmetic purposes only
dual layer, a mold is taken of the part a CF is laied on top with 5 layers of fiberglass followed by another layer of CF, to give structural integrity also the cf look inside and outside of the part this is basically every manufactures way of making CF parts 90% of the cf parts you find online are made this way it makes a lighter product because it eliminates metal structure in the part
F1 CF, this is the true CF part a mold is taken and prepreg CF is put into a mold, vacuum bagged and put into an oven then gel coated this is the only true method of making a REAL full CF part this gives structural integrity of steel while cutting weight to a fraction of what it was this is a very expensive method but produces a truly amazing part i have made parts like this for F1 cars and a few of the space shuttles
with that said, i had an idea for you guys, it seems to be you guys are doing it for mainly cosmetic purposes, while wanting to keep the cars as light as possible, so i have come up with a method to keep prices as low as possible while supplying the best product possible an F1 part like a trunk for this car would be far beyond what you guys want to spend about 1700, for the trunk and wrapping the part just adds weight so, i was thinking something like the dual layer just a little different, instead of using just 2 layers of cf we use 4 and just one layer of fiberglass in the middle that will give u the most structural integrity and weight reduction and just like the F1 parts we will vacuum bag the part to remove excess resin( this is what makes the part strong and will never spider crack) and finish it off with a gel coat this will give you guys a VERY strong lightweight parts that cosmetically appealing and wont run you crazy money, for price the first one will be the most expensive due to cost of mold making will be around 800 BUT, once that is out of the way and the mold is done we can really rock and roll on these parts, depending on the number of orders, ex 10+ orders the price for the trunk should be around 400-500 and the more orders that come in the price will drop we can send the first one out and you come back with 20+ orders we can really cut some huge deals, some may say that 500 is expensive but if u buy a hood online for 500-600 + shipping = about 800 you will notice it is one layer of CF on top of fiberglass for cosmetic purposes, you WILL NOT find quality CF parts like the ones we can make for you NASA calls us to make parts for the shuttles Mugan racing had us do there F1 NSX we do some serious work, and at that price it is truly a deal

does this sound reasonable to you guys, or no?? should i green light them on a trunk mold, or start off with something smaller/cheaper just to see quality?? as i was saying before, i was considering the top portion of the dash... 95-00 (i think) would all be the same on 2 and 4 doors so this would be a part that many people could buy... if they make a good product i spoke with them briefly about making a full CF saturn body (fenders, door skins, rear quarters, trunk, roof skin etc...) very expansive but they say they car do anything we would want... CF center consoles, door panels, headlighers, rear deck lid covers etc...
