is the smoke black? meaning its running extremely rich. is your check engine light on ? year/model?
i'll be the first one to say it.
ECTS
check your engine coolant temperature sensor. if it has a plastic tip it is probably cracked and not reading right, therefore your engine is running extremely rich and flooding at startup.

where are you located at? maybe we can get someone to take a look at what's going on for you, kind of hard to diagnose things at times.
it's somewhat normal to have white/grey smoke when starting cold from humidity in the exhaust system.
I'd say ECTS and maybe TPS, but still hard to say. once it's running does it idle alright or is it all over the place? maybe the Crank Position Sensor too.

Check your coolant level is it low? White smoke usually means coolant getting into your cylinders somehow, blueish/black is oil burning. You may have a bad coolant sensor as stated above, quite possibly may even have a small break in your head gasket, or worse yet a warped head. If all else fails I used some Bars stop leak to cure my small head gasket problem till I can get my rebuilt motor into the car.[quote author="S.Bretz"]I couldn't get mine off when I was 16, I had to have someone else that was stronger then me pull it off. He almost took it in the fore head.
