• what could this be?

my car's a 98 turdbo and recently i was low on oil so i threw quart of 5w20 synthetic in there since i had nothign atm, but then the next day it started to blow blue smoke out of the exhaust so i was thinking it had to be the thinner oil

but a few days earlier somone fucked with my sds eic knobs and when i would try to hit boost it felt like it was misfireing (hopes)

but since i have another car and i noticed the oil pan was leaking i decided to rip the engine out

after takeing the turbo and manifold off i noticed that the #1 cyclinder exhaust port is wet with i'm guessing oil

could it be just the rings may not be getting as tight of a seal as the other so the 5w20 is going past them you think?

the oil pan is off not metal or anything and took of the girdle type thing and the cyclinder looks fine no marks or anything

cause i really don't wanna buy another engine even tho i'd need only a shortblock

    thoughts?

i took a picture with the engine on the engine stand

Looks like the rings are coked. Pull it out, re-hone the cylinder, clean up the piston and put new rings on it. Should be fine. However, if you gonna do that, might as well re-do all the rings, bearings, etc.

could be too thin of an oil...but it exposed a weakspot in the system.

find the weakspot (probably the rings, possibly exhaust valve seals) and replace those while you're in there.

see but the engine only has 20k on it, sadly i'll admit i bought this car turbo'd but i got a great deal on it, but my last saturn i turbo'd

but the kid i bought it from went to the same college as me and rebuilt it and everything there.

we went to a uti type college in ohio UNO

anyways i am sure doing rings and ect would cost more then just going out and getting a used j/y engine?

why would you want to turbo a used jy engine when you can refresh the one you have and know for sure that it's in good shape?

lack of funds i was just gonna try to find a newer engine with decent miles on it and throw her in, like 60k or so

so i'd need the cylinders honed right?, new valve seals, piston rings, so i wouldn;t need new pistons would i?

not sure how much that'd all be

Uh dood, no. If you don't have the $$$ to rebuild it, buy a j/y engine and don't put the terdbo on it. You should be able to replace something like rings without hesitation and know how to do it. I'm not putting anything personal towards you, just that you should be able to do that without asking if you have a F/I saturn, which is the seventh of hells.

No, I mean by fixing what he's got. Looks to be apart already for the most part. Stock build can't be that much money.

Of course used engines are like gold around here, so I don't know.

Sounds like the ring lands might have gotten cooked off the pistons.

DO a compression test. 5w20 should work fine...if its leaks by something, then it not th oil's faulty, its the mechical stuff.

well yeah i've never put pistons in a engine before because i dodn't need to
no offence taken, and this would be my first dohc engine if i were to remove the head and ect, all my previous gm engines were ohv's

how hav u done everything else but still havnt put pistons into an engine yet?

but yet u said that u were/are a student at UNO

im in my second semester at vincennes university and am already rebuilding small blocks and old buick engines (280's or something like that)

i guess im saying that IF u already graduated...u just got hosed on your education

but if u havnt graduated yet then forget about what i just said above^

i remember the guy that came into my high school automotive class and gave us a presentation to try and convince us to come to UNO......he was pretty tall and had BIG glasses.....personally i didnt like him.....too cocky

Pull the head and check out the top of the pistons. Im with Sam, dont be too surprised to find that the ring lands are cracked due to detination.
