  • RKE problem

My tensioner died at work the other day. I swapped it out today in the parking lot, start it yay happy gay.

I disconnected the battery because its staying there for a few more days.

Just to be sure, I opened the door with the key, popped the hood and reatached my battery.

Now my alarm goes off no matter what.

WTF did I do wrong? Can I just ditch the alarm/rke system? How? Can I fix it easily?

Try holding the lock and unlock at the same time. I know there is a wy to relearn already learned fobs, and that my be it.

If you want to do away with it competely, then you can have the PCM flashed without that function.

Im so fucking sick of this car.

Dont you work at a dealer sam? Can you look up the troubleshooting crap for that?

also, I dont think the PCM is what controls the RKE function. Ive swapped pcms a couple times and my RKE has worked on 3 different PCMs.

It should be in the BCM...but you know what I mean. YOu can take it to a dealer and reflash it with no rke and I think that crap will be off the car.

I thought you had a pre 2000 anyway--00+ had the BCM, so all that RKE shit is done in that computer...along with the milage and shit too.

yeah, the key on should shut the alarm off, so should hitting unlock twice.

It'll make a bunch of noise for about 3 minutes on some cars....let it do that. Then do your normal routine, it should work.
damn theft deterant shit drives me nuts. I never get the key fobs with the used cars, and the alarms always go off on me.

cant you jump 4 & 8 on the data connector to force the relearn on those?. I know you can for certain models, dunno if yours is one of them or not

This happened on my '98 SL2 as well. It kept going off whether i used the fob or key. What i did was keep the doors unlocked, disconnect the battery and reconnect it. Press lock on the fob twice to make the horn honk, then unlock twice to unlock all doors. I waited 10 seconds to open the door and it worked great. It may not work for you, but try it and see what happens.
