  • Intermediate shaft carrier bearing question

    1997 SW2 with a 5 speed:

It has developed a squeak at the "carrier bearing" (it holds the shaft from the transmission to the right side half shaft). piece that is bolted to the engine block. I searched for a part number for the bearing, but I can't find one. Do I replace the entire unit? Can I have the original one rebuilt?

    Any tips?
    Thanks
    Arron

Most likly, its the cv boot rubbing on itself causeing the squeak.

I thought that too, but on the inside of bearing, I rubbed in some grease and the noise went away for a little while. It looks like the tin sheild is the culprit.
