  • 2004 Ion QC Manual starting problems

Line 1: CUSTOMER STATES AFTER STARTING THE CAR IN THE MORNING AFTER LUNCH THE SES LIGHT AND THE SECURITY LIGHT WILL COME ON (CHECK/ADVISE)

TECH COMM: FOUND CODE B2960, B3033-SECURITY FAILURE (FAILED ELECT PART IGN.) NOTE: IF PROBLEM PERSISTS WILL ALSO REQUIRE BCM.

Either morning startup, lunch start up or going home startup my car will not start or even attempt to. When i turn the key the security and engine light will come on and Service engine will pop up. After 4-5 one min interval attempts the car will finally start. Anyone else have this problem?

it's the ignition switch. seems to be present more in the colder seasons too. for one reason or another, it wears a bit, and I believe the resistance or something along those lines that the BCM reads is off too much and doesn't pass the PassLock stuff. Thats why the Security light will come on, SES will be on, and sometimes it will prompt for service across the milage display.

if you're in warranty bring it in, they will know exactly what to do. if not it's going to be a little bit of change since the reprogramming/recalibration step takes a little while.

yup, I second that motion. Apparently the lubricant on the inside of the switch solidifies a little too much in cold weather.

Yep. Igntion switch (usually). We get those all the time...all year.
If you already had the switch replaced, then the BCM is acting up, or the wiring inbetween is messed up.

bringing up a REALLY old thread, i know, but i seem to be having this problem now. only difference is it still won't start. i tried for about 30 minutes. tried disconnecting the battery, waiting 5 minutes, and re-attempting... nothing.

only thing that's been done is replace the shredded serpentine belt (and install the ZZP tensioner at the same time)

any thoughts? i wanna get this taken care of before i deploy (in 2 days)

          thanks in advance!!

Are they using left over ignition switches from Pontiac Grand Am's pre-2003?

ok, so key turned to the ACC position, and a few different things happened each time. sometimes it was a normal dashboard, but the needles were really jumpy, other times, i would just get the dome light to come on, and if i pushed on the brake, the light would go out (no brake lights came on)
really not sure on this one. thinking because of the security light coming on EVERY time i turned the key, maybe i somehow did trip the anti-theft feature. anybody know how to reset that without having the dealer come do it? disconnect battery for 10min? 30min? 2hrs??? i need a running car! lol! helpz!

yeah, i vaguely remember that shit.

he was having all sorts of wiring problems. iirc, it was cause of a clusterfuck of shit the first owner of the car did.

hmm. more weirdness. after 2 failed jumpstarts, and a successful 3rd jump, which resulted in a very rough idle, the car started under it's own power on the 4th attempt, and now it's running perfectly again.

wellz, i'm off to sea for 90 days tomorrow morning. see y'all bishes later!!!
