• Important Question Please Look

On the bracket for the steering sway bar it has two bolts holding it, one of the bolts pushed the part that you screw it into all the way into the frame. My question is the only thing holding the bar(Number 1) in the below picture is the bottom bolt holding the bracket(number 3 in the drawing). Since it was the top that messed up, I realized the bottom bolt is still there providing some good support. Should it be fine or should I try to figure something out to secure the top part where the bolt is messed up.

That bar is under a lot of stress. I'd fix it before it causes something else to break

and I get that something happened to the top bolt of the bracket, but what exactly happened? "it pushed the part that you screw it into all the way into the frame" huh

When I was screwing it in I guess it wasn't turning right but the hole it screws into there is some threads. For some reason the threads on the inside of the hole popped out and now the bolt won't come out Just dangles loose due to the threads on the inside. I guess its harder to explain. I will have a welder fab up a bracket to weld the top part onto the frame. Just wanted to know if that part is under a lot of stress which you answered, thanks.

The same thing happened to me, only with the bottom bolt. There's a sort of nut welded on the back of the sheet metal that the bolt goes through, and it probably rusted enough to pop off. I suggest drilling a hole in the sheetmetal above it, cutting the bolt so that you can get it out of there, and replacing it with a regular bolt and nut.

hmmm sounds like a good idea. How long did you drive around with it like that? I take it you would need a drill bit long enough to reach the other side....

I'm still driving around like that. It's been about a month and a half. I just havn't gotten around to taking care of it. As for the drill bit, you would need a long one if you want the bolt to go through the whole box section, but I was thinking more along the lines of drilling a hole large enough to get a socket through the top so that you only bolt it down to the bottom part of the box section. That would require a 90أƒئ’أ¢â‚¬إ،أƒâ€?أ‚آ؛ drill, but if you have access to one, it's a gravy job.
