  • i think my speedometer is shot

    i was driving home today and my speedometer startrs showing a rapid drop of speed and when im driving it lags and seems to take a while to show accurate spped is it possible to fix this or can i get an aftermarket digital or autometer speedometer outside of the dash?

          Your profile says 96 SL2...... Honestly, I would check the VSS first, if that's not it, go to the bonyard and pick up a guage cluster out of a 96 SL2 or SC2, and pop that in.
          IMO, I think it's the VSS. They're around $35, so I would do that first.

          But the guage clusters would run about the same depending on the bonyeard you go to........ I'd check here, call and ask for Chance

            do you have aftermarket faces??? cause if the hole for the needle is to small then you gotta make it bigger thats what mine did,
            but it could be the VSS aslo

                it started working today i took the cluster out there was a loose wire back there i doubt it was the 1 i needed but it works now lol

                      I told you it wasn't the VSS...it would probably read, or not at all...it wouldn't read sluggish.

                        I told you it wasn't the VSS...it would probably read, or not at all...it wouldn't read sluggish.
                        loose wire on the vss would cause a funny read

                          Don't get so cocky..... I've seen the VSS on a vehicle have a short in it out of the box and give all kinds of jewish readings.... so it wouldn't have suprised me if it was his VSS, but it wasn't, so he's golden...... no greasy hands.
