  • GM Motor swapping

I have a question for anyone in here that could provide me some insight.

I want to swap the motor out of my L300 (3.0L V-6) with another GM motor. I was looking into the possibility of a Supercharged 3800 out of a Grand Prix. Do you think that this could be a feasable swap?

I am looking at having a complete donor car so I can have all of the parts and accessories necessary to make this happen. I want to so this because there is not much of a market for the motor that I have.

there was a guy in TN that had done this as a matter of fact, but I unfortunately have no contact info for him. I think Minivan Tuner was the one to tell me about it.

It's possible sure, but how feasible and cost efficient is another story.

Money is not the problem. I just want to turn my L300 into a fast car. I have raced a few local SC1's, SC2's and other L's but I want to go fast down the strip on race nights.

you might want to consider swapping a built and boosted ecotec into it, be it a 2.2 or 2.0 s/c

I was looking at staying with the V-6. What is the address to TSN?

that's fine and well, but a 2.2 eco was an option for that car, so it will for sure bolt up, as will the trans mission, and can make a LOT of power when built right. I would look into that seriously since it is a lot more of a realistic option. hell with HP Tuners support now for the LSJ, you could swap in the 2.0 and either fab up a turbo kit for it, or keep the blower, and have a real sweet and pretty reliable build.

That is true. The L100 and L200 came with the 2.2L Eco and the L300 cam with the 3.0L. My buddy has the L200 and the motor mounts look to be almost the same if not the same thing. Thanks for the info and the ehlp. I will do some more research into it.

A redline engine is an L-series would be a great sleeper.

I know you don't want to hear it but the Ecotec is a much more viable option for what you want to do. It's an easier swap (physically and financially) and has great potential.

There is a One-lap of America car that was run a few years back that was a boosted L-200. I think this would be your best bet, less weight and easier to do.

Read through this and I promise it will give you something to think about.

Thanks for all of the input and the help. I had also never really considered a Redline engine. Something new to look into.

                    Thanks for the link.

i think the sc 3.8 is a good idea... little heavier in the front end but it is a strong ass engine and i would make that car scream

I have seen them do lots to those grand prix motors and really squeeze some HP out of them.

and you can put down the same amount of power with the ecotecs and save on weight over the nose, which could go either way.

I will look at the 2.2 versus the 3.8 and see what the maximum potential is for each motor.
