  • Steps to crinkle coat?

This is mainly directed to Jay (Greenmonstah) Ok so what are the steps and how would I go about crinkle coating my Intake and strut tower bar, and where could I buy the paint. I know you might not want your secret told, but I'd really like to do it myslef, I'm on a learning mission. If you want you could PM me the steps, Jay

I don't mind a bit...it's my hands that makes the finish.

I usually sand everthing to smooth, then after lots of cleaning, I mask off any areas to stay uncoated. Then apply some VHT epoxy primer paint to the thing. It'll take 2 - 3 light coats. Let it cure for a couple days, or use a heat gun to speed up the process. After it is cured enough to touch/sand, make sure there are no fish eyes or anything. If there are, you'll have to take care of that now so the wrinkles don't form a circle around the blemish. Then coat with VHT wrinkle or wrinkle plus for high heat apps. This will usually take 2-3 coats. Light coats = small wrinkles, heavy coats = big wrinkles.

Holy fuck thats alot of steps, I'll see what I can do, I may just get my Intake and strut bar to you to do it if it's ok with you. I thought it be simpler then that. How much would you charge me for that?

Anytime your working with paint you can either do it fast and look like crap or take your time and do a good job.

The emblem that went onto my wrinkle coated valve cover took me about 2 weeks and it was worth it (mostly just waiting for paint to cure). My nitrous bottle is currently in the garadge hanging from the ceiling with the first couple coats of metallic primer on it....I don't plan on having that done for 3 weeks but it will so kick ass when its done.

that actually doesnt sound like it is too bad for a good crinkle coat job. I wouldnt mind painting my own stuff then.

Jay is definately good at it. I will have to look into that VHT wrinkle, I love their Nightshades product for the tailights and the caliper paint as well.

Allan, that valvecover emblem looks good, definately unique. Kind of a washed (inked) look to it, I like it for a blue schemed car.

I used Krylon ( I think) and prepared it like Jay did with primer and patience. I think it came out pretty good for a spray can but I am sure Jay's will hold up longer.
