  • PCM doesn't want to learn the crank but it knows it should

02 Block + 01 Head + 96 Crank + 00 PCM just reflashed as SC2a Fed Emmissions. I put the new PCM in the car and do the 30 min passlock procedure successfully and started it up. It idled rough and it was missing (can smell it in the exhaust). So I let it warm up but the SES or wrench never flashed to begin the learn procedure. I kept turning it off and on to get it to flash but it never did. I wasn't getting a SES at all, even tried my scan tool and nothing came up, not even a 0300 misfire. So I took it for a drive to see how it did. The SES came on and the code is 1336 - CPK needs learned (duh). So I bring it back home and idled but still no flashy flashy. Turn it of and on a couple times and nothing other then a rough idle and the smell of running really rich. The PCM knows it needs to learn the crank but it wount do it. Any ideas?

The tech 2 can do a "forced" learn.

    have you tried that?

Not on this PCM. Just got it yesterday and its been reflashed so it should "want" to learn the crank (the 1336 code tells me its not learned). I hate going to the dealer.....last time I went to have them force a relearn they told me it wouldn't work becuase I'm missing on 2+3 yet right in the FSM it says if your missing on paired cyl and the coils/wires/plugs are good then to force a relearn.

If thats what you recommend Jay I'll give them a call....I'd just like to exahust every other possibility if I can.

I didn't realize that they were that bad over there. It sounds like you dread going there. LOL. I think it would work though.

There only saving grace was they brought the car into the bay and hooked up the tec-2 then told me about the misses and what not, I argued with them but they said it would fail. I asked the service manager what I owed them and the tech told him nothing so I can't complain too much. I'm going to try some stuff mvmsl2 posted tomorrow morning and see what happens.

Kinda hopefully got it to learn....had to start it up cold in colder humid weather which I'm thiking prevented some missing...at least enough for it to want to learn.

Pcm the PCM fuse for a few hours. Then when you first get it started, rev it to 3K and hold it for 10 seconds.

Pretty much what I did. I gave it a day and started it when it was cool and dry, it flashed after like 20 some seconds and learned it pretty quick. Yea! no more stalling at stops!
