MSD Coils ruined my Ignition Control Module. I bought OE replacements and it runs just as good.

That is wrong. Don't ever say that again.

the problem with the MSD coils is that they dont sit flush, causing a misfire, you may have to edge a bit off to sit flush

That's it? Sounds like a simple reset to me, which I should've thought of...

It didn't die on the first start, but so far, cruising around town a bit, I seem to be back up to full power. The real test will be when I commute to work tomorrow. Thanks!

Pull the pcm fuses, turn the key to accesory power for about 5 minutes. Turn the key off, then put the fuses back in. Restart the car...then start it again because it will die the first crank over, then try it.

    Lost power - coils?

OK, so the crappy running and misfire problem I had was dead MSD coils. I swapped the stock coils from a friend's 95 SC2 (my old car) onto my 96 SL2, and it ran smooth.

So I bought a pair of stock replacement coils, put them on, and the engine runs smooth - no SES light, no misfires, no nothing. But there's still a problem - I have about as much power as a stock SL1. (I need to replace the cracked Hotshot header with the 91-92 OEM header that also came with the car, and I figure I'll put a decent flowing aftermarket cat in there at the same time.)

I've got no OBD-II codes to share with you, because there are none. The engine runs smooth and fine for conservative driving around town, but is way down on power. My current theory is that I need the more powerful coils, but I don't know enough about this stuff to know for sure. What do you think?

    Thanks!
