i recent was talking to a tech i know form working at saturn and was telling him aboutmy problem with reversing. he said the delay while in reverse was from the valve body. but know i wanna know if that will cause the car to get up to forty and rev like its in nuetral while its in drive. this only happenes when sitting in bumper to bumper traffic? any ideas or other signs to check for?

possibly it could, it would cause the readings to be off to the ECU and could not lock it in gear.
there's also a lead (was talking to Monstah and Conflict about this) that if it is not grounded properly will not read the signals properly, which could also be the cause.
if you know the valvebody is bad, then chances are that's 90% of the problem.

i checked the fluid its full. but i know it needs to be changed but i was told if i change it with the reverse problem. it would completely destroy the tranny. and it would no run at all. is this ture? also how difficult is it to remove the old valvebody and replace it and where can i get a good price on 1?
also if it was to be the lead not grounded right where would i find it. and where to ground it to. i've had the car for alil over a year now. and it only has 70k on a 93 sl1 auto. if any of that helps.
thanks in advanceSTC-NY

wait someone told u if u change the fluid it will desroy ur tanny? thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard, ok not really but its close. There is a trick to try and fix the reverse slam if it isnot the valvebody, u change the fluid and filter, with a saturn filter NOT AFTERMARKET cuz there is a magnet that goes b/w the filter, so after u change the trans oil u park it backend against a wall, pull up the parking brake, put it in reverse, and leave it there for 20 to 30 minutes and it simulates driveing in reverse. sometimes this fixes the reverse slam, and even if it is a problem with the valve body it usualy fixes it for a month or 2. also if ur gonna spend a few hundred to fix ur transmition u might as well trade it for a manual, that what im going to do when i have the money to, cuz even if u fix it ur gonna have some more problems with it cuz the autos just suck ass[quote author="triman54 on s2ki.com, May 16 2008, 04:02 PM"] A Saturn is like a box of chocolates... actually they don't, but some have the problem he's talking about
yeah locking it in reverse with resistance sometimes works, but not always. the fix has to do with the inner workings of the transmission. it's not the heardest thing to fix, but easy either since you have to open the casing up. I want to say it's a shift solenoid but I'm not sure if that's teh correct term.

so basically the only way to fully fix the knock in reverse would be to remove the tranny and replace the soleinoid. is there any danger to locking it with resistance?
i dont wanna spend the time now with redoing the tranny as i do plan on the swap, hopefully some time soon. also what would be a ball park figure for the swap. i would do it myself but i have very little time right now.
also its fine to change the fluid as long as i get the filter from saturn and then lock it in reverse? what are some of the signs of a bad valve body.STC-NY

no there's no danger in the reverse resistance magillicutty procedure you mentioned
for a manual swap? depends on how much they are in the area. you would need:
clutch pedal assembly
brake pedal assembly (unless you cut down your stock automatic pedal)
clutch hydraulic assembly
shifter assembly
shift cable assembly
flywheel
flywheel bolts
clutch kit
manual transmission
manual transmission dogbone mount bracket
manual ecu (only if you don't want the SES light, you can run it on the auto ecu fine with one or two tranny codes)
not sure if anyone even makes an aftermarket tranny filter, but the magnet is on the transmission itself, not the filter, so it would not be removed to begin with.
hard shifting, inability to shift, etc are signs of a bad valve body. you can try the reverse deal before or after you change the fluid, but I'm not all that convinced it will fix your problem, at least long term.

alright thanks alot. i taught the guy seemed rather shady and i know they were busy the day i wanted to get the tranny flushed. that explains why he said not to do it. imma start collecting all the parts i need so hopefully by july i can have the swap ready to be done. i wasnt to sure about it fixing my problem either cause it not constant its very speratic(sp) and dont always happen the same way.STC-NY

lol yeah im not gonna worry about the ecu when i do mine cuz its on all the time neways cuz of the way the cooling fan is hooked up, the previous owner messed it up so much it couldnt be routed the normal way so im just always gonna throw a code 26. The mechanic my dad has used ever since we have been in florida set up the cooling fan the way it is now, the previous owner did it by shorting out the ignition system, and we trust him alot and i havnt had any problems with it. So I check check my codes about once a week to make sure i dont have any new ones[quote author="triman54 on s2ki.com, May 16 2008, 04:02 PM"] A Saturn is like a box of chocolates...
