  • Ion Rear Disc thoughts.

I absolutely can't stand the look of the drum brakes with my new rims.

Totally detracts from the great look of the car. I have heard rumors that the SC rear hubs are the exact same bolt pattern as the Ion (the part that bolts to the axles, not the Lug pattern). Was just curious if it was possible to swap in the SC hubs and caliper mounts and utilize the SC calipers, pads and such.

My Ion doesn't have ABS so no worries there. Just wondering if it will fit properly, and whether or not there will be any major fab'ing involved with setting that up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Actually Tim, it was my understanding that it is exactly the opposite. The lug pattern is the same at 4x100, but the rest looks to be different. maybe because of the different mounting points on the rear suspension?

I should grab the broken assembly from the shop off mine and see if I can compare it to the rear disc assembly I have at home, see what all is that drastically different. I'd love rear discs on this car.

My only reason for remotely asking about this is b/c I don't want to pay $1800+ for a set of front and rear big brake kits. Was trying to find another viable alternative to work out.

even the regular size discs kits for the rear are $700 at least, no matter where you get them from.

I thought I'd seen a two different discriptions, one saying 12" big brake kit and one that just said rear disc conversion.

if you ever find the link to the regular conversion let us know Dan, I would be interested in just that, but not the larger ones.

i went to my dealership about a month ago and got one of the techs to help me see if the rear disc brackets would fit the regular ions, but turns out theres more work than I thought. He showed me how you'd have to have a backing plate and a bracket that welds to the axle and a whole bunch of shit. Its just not worth it to try and swap, unless you can get a rl rear axle assy. for free.

I may just say fuck it and get those ones from RSM later down the road. Putting down 400hp and not being able to stop will be a tad skeery. 1800 bucks for a pretty good set of brakes isn't too bad. Better than gravana's pricing, although his look nicer.
