you should be able to...You can get them from saturnparts.net for like $476 or something. I think you'll need an Ion 3 VIN to get the Ion 3 flash as that is what it goes on. If you can find someone with an 03 Ion QC3 and can get the VIN you should be able to get that flash.

HELL...you have the 03 ECU already all you need is a VIN and a reflash on the ECU you have now. All you really need is a VIN and the ECU separated from the car to get the flash I believe. I might be wrong, someone correct me if I am.

One question...why do you NEED the 120 speed limiter?

Pressures and stresses of all kinds thermal and mechanical loading across the board escalate to extreme levels. A Chevrolet 5.7-liter LS1 V8 with this much specific power (horsepower per cubic inch) would be making 2,137 hp

i actually dont NEED a limiter at all, id rather NOT have one on there. for those of you whom would gripe about the person "not needing to go that fast", i think that is up to the owner, thats like saying, hey dude, dont turbo your car, might make it too fast. i mean if your putting performance parts for speed into your car, it'd be nice to KNOW that you CAN go over 120 IF you really wanted too...

and im totally lost on the ecu thing, im just gonna go to my old work @ saturn of slidell, la and see what they can do for me...

I dont want to see that "need" point to be argued again like a bunch of kids.

If he wants to go over 120, thats his agenda. We're all adults here(mostly).

I agree with Marc, this is getting old.

However, I do think it is kind of dumb to do this. Then again, a wreck at 120 and a wreck at 108 isn't going to make a difference all that much. If he's going to go that fast, it isn't going to matter what he tops out at if the car somehow gets in an accident. Hopefully the person in question keeps other things in mind when contemplating raising their limiter and considers what precautions should be taken when attempting driving at a high rate of speed.

Sixthsphere and all of it's members are also NOT RESPONSIBLE in any way, shape, or form for actions performed by those seeking to modify their vehicle, ESPECIALLY in a way such as this.

There are people, like myself, which have valid reasoning for requesting such info for use in the 1/4 mile. There are others who just want to know it's there. Use your judgement regardless of who you are.

With that said, Red4Coupe's theory is basically what myself and others have deducted.

Personally, I don't giva shit that you wanna remove the limiter so you can go faster, I'd just like to know WHERE you plan on driving that allows for such speeds.

If you read my post, I answered the question, the info is there. At least what I have deduced thru conversations with Techs and several others...Vinny included. You shouldn't need a whole new ECU just a reflash of an Ion 3. I take back my question.

I'm planning on getting rid of it myself via standalone so I dunno why I asked it. Just build the cars suspension and what not to handle it, is all I can recommend. I topped mine out and things didn't feel super solid until I got my suspension put together the way I wanted.

I'm a speed junky too. I understand the desire to go fast, hence why I'm turboing my Ion.

Shit! I'm just being a human looking out for others. Sorry to stir the shit pot.

That part wasnt directed at you Red4Coupe, it was pre-emptive for anyone else thinking about putting their 2 cents into going that fast, etc, etc.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, you did give good info.

i got passed by a camaro doin that kind of speeds on the turnpike a few nights ago.

and i really don't care about this anymore. just got a question for ya'll, i know the ion-1 and 2 are governed at 108 and the 3's at 120 and the redline supposedly not at all. now, why did both motor trend and car and driver report the 2.2 ions as all of them being governed at 120? just wondering....

and is the 2.4's governor any different?

*edit* in case anyone was wondering, i've never topped out my ion.

Maybe it was a typo or some fluke information that Saturn gave them. Dunno about that.

We have an econobox that becomes unstable at higher speeds. The Ion 3 has a better suspension in it that compensates for the operation at high speeds. The RL has a stiffer suspension still thus more compensation for higher speeds as it was "track tuned" according to saturn.

I think the 2.4L as it's in the Ion3 is also 120 limit, don't take that for fact though, I have been wrong. The RL FOR A FACT is ungoverned except by the 6500 fuel cut-off. I had a RL for 6 days and took her up to 140 on an empty interstate between Boise and Mtn Home, ID. I still had about 2k left in 5th gear when she topped out and I said fuck this...it's too fast and promptly slowed down to 75 and held that all the way home, lol
