  • Wheel spacers???

I just scored a set of 16x7 Rota Slipstreams in good condition. They have a 40mm offset and I want to install a set of Falken Azenis 215/45R16's on them. I am picking the wheels up on Saturday and want to be able to test fit them immediately. I may need to put 5mm wheel spacer on to make them fit. Anyone know for sure? If I need wheel spacers (5 mm should be about right) is there any problem putting them on a 4-wheel disc brake car?

Ian sells uber thick spacers which are A) ridiculous (IMO) and more importantly B) illegal in STS.

Going the 215/45 route budman? Its been a tossup for me between those and the 225 50 15 kooks. Guess I could always tear though my MXs first.

The 15x7 wheels I have are 35mm offset which gave me enough room to adjust the camber to where I wanted it with the 205/50R15 tires that are mounted on them

The 16x7 wheels have 40mm offset which is 5mm less distance from wheel to suspension AND the 215/45R16 tire is 10 mm wider than the 205/50R15 tire. This could cause a fitment issue or make it to where I can't adjust the camber like I want to.

In my discussions on the SCCA Forums the 225 Hankooks are just barely wider than the old 205/50R15 Azenis RT215 tire was and not as wide as the new RT615 Azenis 215/45R16 tire. The Hankooks have more void space and a softer sidewall. Both Andy Hollis & Geoff Chambers (perennial Nat'l ST class contenders/champs) recommended the RT615 Azenis over the Hankooks. The current hot tire for the Civic crowd is the Falken Azenis RT615 in the 205/40R16, but that's a bit too short imo for our cars. That's even shorter than the 205/50R15's and I had trouble not lighting them up at times on corner exit.

I see. The falkens did place well in '06. What was the 240 running? RE-070s? Only big concern for me with the falkens is the weight.

The only concerns for with with the RE-070's and Neova's is the price!!! LOL!!! They considerably more expensive...thank goodness that most cars in our class can't fit the Neova's as they more than double the price of the Falkens.

The 215/45R16 Azenis weighs 21.7 Lbs which is only .9 lbs heavier than the 205/50R15 Azenis. That's ok imo as the increased footprint will give better cornering traction...we'll see. Couldn't find ant weights for the Hankooks.

Anyone using wheel spacers on a 4-wheel disc brake Saturn? Any issues?

I have used a 5mm in the front and rear on my car with no problems. The studs in the rear are longer then the front anyway, I think so I would think there would be more of a problem in the front. Go for it.

I have 215/45R17's on my car (7" wheel) and I dont have any clearance issues at -1.5*

I do run the SPS hub spacer in the rear (4 wheel ABS), not for clearance though.

Billy man I told you, we run lots more camber then that. That 215/45x16 tire is also lots wider then yours.

The spacers probabaly are not a bad idea.

I used to have a set of Rota Slips in 16x7, 40mm on my last SC2 with 225/45 ZR16's on them and at -1.5 I could fit my pinky finger tightly between the tire and the strut, with no spacers on the car. I never autocrossed on them as I always ran the Azenis 205/50 R15's for the course. With the amount of negative camber you will probably run with sidewall flex in hard cornering, they will probably rub.

If you could find the old SPS rear hub spacers they are better IMO, but getting real hard to find anymore. I see generic wheel spacers on ebay all the time in 5mm though.

Somebody might suggest to Ian to make a rear hub spacer design in 5mm like the old SPS ones.

Wheel spacers are legal but hub spacers are not.
