  • wheels vs tires

alright, my goal is to maintain the same overall circumference of the wheel, so I don't get any significant speedo error. wheel sizes I am considering are 15", 16" and 17". so, it seems that my options (that maintain close to zero speedo error) are:

    215/55/15
    205/50/16
    205/45/17
    225/40/17

my basic question is: which will influence the total weight of the wheel more, the rim or the tire? I'm planning on running 5Zigen FN01R-Cs, or Rota Slipstreams. I'm open to other wheel suggestions, I just want an overall rim/tire combo that is lighter than my current setup. I'd like 17x7s for the looks, but if it will add a significant amount of weight, I might have to stick with 15x7s.

Id stick with 15 or 16s if you are concerned about weight. I have FN01RCs on my car with 205 50 16 tires. Falken Ziex to be specific. You can look in my garage to see how they look.

I still wish I had went with 15 inch 5zigens for weight, but my tire isnt too beefy so I dont think it made too much of a difference.

BTW, Slipstreams are LOADS cheaper then 5zigens. I like 5zigens myself though, plus the FN01RC design is bad ass. Just get a different color then me. You wouldnt want to be a copy cat now would ya lol

lol, I'd be going with a polished rim if I went with the 5Zigens, flat black or gunmetal if i went with the slipstreams. the slipstreams seem to be heavier, though...

I thought that a 15inch slipstream was like 11 pounds? I might be confused with the Speedy Wheels.

The original Spoon version was wicked light.

yeah, too bad they cost a ton now.

this is the chart I'm going off of, linked from Lane's site: http://www.superhonda.com/tech/wheel_weights.html

That isnt that accurate I dont think. They dont even list the FN01Rcs. And watanabes are less then 16 lbs for 15 inches.

I think this is how they have the FN01RCs listed as:

              5Zigen Becket FN-01R Forged 15x7 10.6
              5Zigen Becket FN-01R Forged 16x7 11.7
              5Zigen Becket FN-01R Forged 17x8 14.6

then again, I can't seem to find any two sites that agree on the weights of either wheel. but it would make sense just from looking at them that the 5Zigens would be lighter, it looks like they have a lot less meat in the spokes (assuming the metals are the same, or close to it)

The C in FN01Rc means Cast, and they are slightly, but not much heavier then the forged ones.

if you have a N/A car the smaller diamater the tire is the lower geared the car wil be this will help your 0-to-60 times

if your turboed having a larger tire will help with spinning

the larger tire can be run with a little loer air PSI to help stop wheel-hop

I like my 17 inch wheels with 215-45-17 tires

                  but for all out rasing I like runing a light wate rim 15 inch with a fat 245 or 255 - 55 or 60 - 15

this way the tire becomes the Suspension for the guy that is riding on the bump-stops

I cant wate for those fancy new coilover set ups

These are nice and on sale too...too bad they don't offer them in a 15x7.5 wheel which would be perfect!

ENKEI RP-F1 15x7-35mm offset and they weigh less then 10 Lbs!

I'm not really a fan of 6 spoke, and those are kind of expensive...if I'm going to spend that much, I might as well get centerlines.

Or Falken Hanabis. Cheap and light.

15s will give you the lightest combo, but 205/55/15 has shit for tire selection.

205/50-16 is probably your best bet. Decent tire selection, and still some light wheels.
