  • Question about Rear Sway Bar tuning?

Im about to install a 16.5mm rear sway bar in the 93 SC2.

as you all know it has the 3 settings .. which setting is full hard the last hole or the one closest to the bend?

I would think it would be the one furthest out ? never installed one before...

    Thanks

oh, ok, now that makes sense...

Does anyone else here have the 16.5mm sway bar with H&R sports?

the only thing i have done in the past was install the bushings... that was easy. I have read stuff about the rear sway bar but never really got into it ... then i realized when i have my 93 up in the air that i had one.

I am just wonderin if anyone has any positive/nevitive feedback on the rear sway bar (on full hard) with hr sports???

I know to install it you have to drop the rear suspention but thats not a problem because im removing it all at the same time and doing the bushings... I seen someone say that patience is a must because sometimes you have to finagle it out.... basically im installing springs rear disks/swaybar , SSbraided brake lines and bushings all around at the same time... WOO HOOO

Plastic Fury I think but I might be wrong...

I know the 4 way on full hard was too much.

yea but the 4 way is the bigger bar isn't it?

I'm sure the 17.5mm bar on full hard is much stiffer than the 16mm at full hard.

Honestly I'd start off in the middle. If you think it needs to be stiffened up a lil, then change it, It really isn't hard to do.

yeah it's teh 17.5 so that's probably part of it also

I think Monstah has the 16 at full stiff but with eibachs and he has no problems

As Supra said, the closer to the bend, the stiffer it is.

Think of it as a lever. Because, well, it IS a lever. ) I've settled on the middle setting. On an autocross course, the car's handling balance is quite neutral and stable. It's easy to kick the rear out if I want to, but it won't kick out on its own either.

Yeah, I run the 17.5mm 4way with Eibach Pro-Kit springs and poly bushings all the way around.

It is rather easy to adjust, as I have done it by simply crawling under the car in between runs at an autocross. You may find it easier to do if you remove the paint from the inside diameter adjustment holes on the sway bar, ahead of time.

As for adjustment with my setup, full hard was waaaaay to much lol, taking any fast corners brought the ass of the car around so fast it was funny. I run mine usually in the second/third slots depending on the track.

LP, you are smart in doing the springs/sway/SS lines/rear discs/bushings all at once, might as well while you have it apart. As for the bushings, I am assuming you have the 16mm bushings for the new bar as well??

i have the big yellow bar and, after many races, i've kept it at the setting that's one away from full firm. if you're on race tires, you should seriously consider reinforcing your brackets before going to full firm on this bar, it will bend them. careful regulation of tire pressures keeps the car pointed in the right direction, but once you get a feel for the oversteer, you'll never go back. it's totally amazing...

edit: just watched the youtube vid... you're on the brakes too long and too late. try braking a little earlier and get off them quick. make sure you give the car a chance to shift its weight to the front wheels before you really squeeze the brakes tight, tho. difficult to tell if you're on the right line, but you probably are. trail-braking is a time-killer in solo, tho...

I used to have the 16mm bar before I installed the bigger bar. I'd recommend you to put the bar on full hard. It will still push a bit, but it's the best you can do for now.

Heres another thing you can do...

Install the smaller front bar from a SC-1 or SL-1....now you'll have a more balanced car for serious cornering, but take it a little easy until you get used to it as the car will now have the potential to swap ends if pushed too hard.

So I'm guessing the 19mm bar is just plain way too much?

Probably not too bad with the stock SC-2 front swaybar, but I don't think the 19mm rear bar is adjustable and there are some precautions you have to take when installing it or you can damage parts of your car. Personally I'd rather have the 17.5mm bar if you can find it and the 16mm bar over the 19mm one.

Swaybars are designed to control bodyroll when cornering while still letting the car maintain a nice comfortable ride with a "normal suspension" that most people want. A better way to control bodyroll is with stiffer springs, but then you need struts that can handle those springs. Such struts were not available until now, but now AMR is making us some (see to top listed thread in the Suspension Forum). With the stiffer suspension you won't want the 19mm bar and the 16mm bar should do very well. Jump in on this suspension if you can....should be freaking awesome

i run the 19mm bar and i really dont think it is too much. Ive run it with very sticky tires and some normal all seasons and the car was fine with both. Granted I did spin it once but that happened cause I got distracted mid turn lol cell phone vibrating between the legs. And in the rain you have to be a little careful if you dont have good tires.

and its worlds better than the stock bar so I say get it if you can still find it, cause the sps bars are long gone
