• Brake pad upgrade?

    So my front rotors are warped. Gee, BIG surprise. ](*,) I'm having a hard time finding anything other than OEM replacement pads for the front.

    What would you guys recommend? My car is mainly street driven, regularly autocrossed, and will very occasionally visit a road course. The EBCs used to handle it all. Stillens couldn't take track use, but did street and autox just fine.

    How's the Hawk HPS? Is it significantly better than stock? I ran Hawk HP+ pads on my Miata for a while, and they worked well, but they dusted a lot and squeaked like a bus when I stopped. I take it the HPS is a milder compound, but if it's pretty much an OEM replacement I might as well pay 1/3 the price at Napa or wherever.

    Also, I know you guys highly recommend Powerslot rotors, but Tire Rack has ATE PremiumOne slotted rotors for half the price, and only $4 more than basic replacement rotors. Any experience or opinions?

    Thanks!

      Greens=junk.

      Buy the HPS pads. They rock the house.

          Like I said, greens are junk. They feel like stock pads IMO.

          Ive had both, I like the hawks much better.

            Gotta agree with Jeremy. I have the Hawk HPS on the car for street and autox usage (along with powerslot rotors) and they work great.

            As for leaving debris on the wheels, if you wash the car, that should not be an issue.

                I was thinking about getting new pads and rotors as well, my power slot/ metal matrix pad combo is fuxxored up. Those pads chewed the shit out of my power slots though.

                  Aggressive pads will do that. Rotors should be considered a wear item on these cars anyway. It's the price you pay for better braking power.

                  Thanks for all the advice! Looks like I'll be splurging for the Hawk HPS. I have a friend who ran the ATE slotted rotors on her Jetta GLX and really liked them, so I'm going to try those rather than Powerslots. They're cheaper, and if they held up on a big, heavy GLX, they oughta work OK for a tupperware car. I'll let you know if I'm right...

                      That makes two of us, may look into that next time. Especially for the course , since they get destroyed anyways.

                        Found them on Tire Rack. Brembo OEM replacements are $39/ea. ATE slotted are $43/ea. It's a no-brainer for me. (Compare to Powerslots at $80/ea...)

                        I'll try em first and tell y'all how they are. Like I said, my friend who used them on her Jetta GLX was very happy with them, and as heavy as that car is I'm sure they saw a lot more [ab]use than they will on a Saturn.
