  • RL Trac Bars and CNC Energy Suspension Mounts

Just a bit of information. I'm trying to take the initiative here and make some shit happen for us.

I know there are a lot of Ion guys on the site now. I PM'd the guys that created these traction bars asking if they would fit the Ion QC's. No reply as of yet, approx. 1 hour as of pm. I also caught wind that they are in the process of creating solid engine mounts for the Ion RL. I'm not talking the ZZPerf poly fill shit, OR the home brew poly fills. I'm talking custom Energy Suspension bushings and mounts for the Redline. 3 of the 4 mounts in question.

Now me, being the aspiring Ion QC tuner that I am cried NO JOY. Inquired as to whether or not they will be adding any support for the 2.2L Ion due to the fact that there are alot of us out here that are interested in tuning the 2.2L Eco. Also put in that since the Ion Eco is slightly different that the Cavi Eco and the LSJ that we don't really have a decent market for high performance shiz like this. Hopefully they will get back to me about it. I also included the 6S site so that they could get a tally on who's interested.

If I'm the only one that wants these I'm going to be PISSED. They won't make a limited production run...I know it. Small companies don't like to make them for a no-profit venture into a small community, I know the S-Series guys know what I'm talking about. We need a strong showing of Ion guys that are interested. Hopefully they will see that there is a market for the 2.2L and they will expand a bit. I mean, a turbo'd L61 will walk an LSJ all day...it's science. LOL. (I'm not joking).

I've had the traction bars in hand, and checked the mounting points on the Redlines, and I don't see why these wouldn't work for us. If they weren't so damn pricey I'd pick a set up right now, but then again I have very little to no hop as it is.

Also, as I've said earlier, there's a chance that with strengthening mounts other than the front lower trans unit, that the added stress will cause things to break or warp from the torque being passed down the line. I've had my mount filled and in the car for what's going on two years now, and it's worked great the entire time. 80% of the wheelhop was gone with stock springs, and now with the Eibach's about 98% is gone. The ONLY time I get hop is when my track tires are overheated, or sometimes in the rain randomly but not often. This is part of what was being debated about the torque braces, and why some on this site did not go with them.

That being said, I personally am not interested for a few reasons. Mainly, it's not going to be worth it to me since I make my own for myself and others. Aside from that, I forsee the cost being quite pricey since as many Ions as there are who work on their cars, there are many many many that don't. It's a different ballgame with the s-series since they have a much larger mass of vehicles on the road, so the same percentage will net more owners.

And I'll say this right now, do NOT turn this into an LSJ vs L61 debate. We all know Tim's a 2.2 fanboy, don't provoke him please LOL.

              what?

the lower trans mount is a cast aluminum piece I believe with a rubber center, there's no plastic in it.

Sorry for stirring the shiz. It just kinda came out.

Anyhow, the bushings for the Redline are going to be Durometer 80A...not ULTRA STIFF monster mounts, more like, stiffer but not so stiff as to mess shit up. So with that said. I think I'm going to pursue this a bit more and if he doesn't want to do it oh well...whats the worst he can say...no?

I understand that the Ion doesn't have a strong tuner market since it's only been around for like 4 years. Thats a pretty weak showing considering the 4g63's have been around...oh about 12 years or so, give or take. It's so retarded that they had to make the RL with just enough difference to alienate the QC from nearly ALL of it's aftermarket. Yeah we have the Cavalier aftermarket, kinda...but there are still dozens of things that can't or won't fit or require modding to make it fit, as far as bolt-ons go. Anyhow.

Sorry for the bitch fest. I realize that the S-series fellas here have to fab ALOT of shit, and I'm probably not even seeing the big picture since you guys have it worse off than we do.

tim please do persue it, vinny, either it has a plastic cover or it's a composite peice, i'll get a couple of pic's and let you look at them. the mount it self is metal, the attachment point on the trans axle side is of a composit material

I'd go for it Tim. For the record, 80A is very similar to what I'm using, but not quiet obviously.

there's no part of the transmission that's composite, it should bolt right to a section right below the bell housing. only thing I can think of was if they altered something on the 05-06, but I doubt it. maybe you're thinking of the wrong part too? the mount for all 03 and up are the same one.

if your standing at the bumer and look down, it's the mount in front, closer to the bottom of the bell housing, attaches to the front structual member and the transaxle housing right?

                        Number 3 in the diagram.

that's the one. where it bolts to the tranny it's composite? I can't even see how that's possible. if you can get a picture I'd appreciate it.

I'll get a couple of picutres tonight and get them up.... I thinks it a composite over mount not the mount it self. the parts diagram was for an 05, And i couldn't pictures of the 06 to come up. never mind I got the pictures to come up, but I'll take a couple of pics tonight, I'll probably get them up about 9pm your time

Same diagram and part for a 2006

if there's a cover that goes over it you can take it off, though it isn't a bad idea to keep heat away from it or whatever, just don't see a point in it since the earlier ones didn't have it.

let me know, but like I said, the part numbers and listings are all the same, so it's still the same thing we're working with.

yeah I finally got the pictures to work. I think may just be cover, but standing at the bumper on the drivers side looking down it'll be the lowest mount betewn the stuctual member and the trans casing, right?
