I own a 99' saturn sc2 coupe and i wanted to stick a 225 seires tire on some 16 inch rims...some people told me that it will rub..others told me i have just enough clearance...i've seen pics of people running 225's but i never seen one up close...does anyone know if it would rub????

it all depends on the type of tire you go with and the offset of the wheels

Go to a tire store, tell them you wanna try it, and theyll test fit some for you.

why 225? not going to make that much difference if you go with a shit rubber compound, that has the largest impact

225/45R16 could fit, depending on the offset.. Im assuming they are 7" wide.

offset and backspacing is a key. but like others have said, if you get a sticky tire, thats what helps. i think 215 is wide enough for the car

I run a 225/45 ZR16 on my 93 Scoupe. I have Rota Slipstreams in 16" (duh) with Falken ZE 512's in the above mentioned size. You can get a pinky finger (barely) between the tire and strut all the way around with that tire.

Honestly, I started with a 205 but I did NOT like the way the tires pulled under the wheel. Falken (I get a VERY nice hook up on Falkens, so that's what I use) does not make a 215 in my application so I had to take a chance on the 225's.

I have considered dropping back to the 15's (what I use for the SCCA) but I got to admit, I love the look of the 16" 225's on the car, they fill the wheel wells very nicely and look great from behind lol. I just slapped them on the '93SC1 I am building w/ the same Rota's and it's the same fit. It's very close but it does not rub. I can probably find a pic if you want to see them. I am not sure what the offset is on the Rota is though.

225's look beefy from the back...when I saw that on Don Baker's old right, I almost got a woody.

Sam, I remember the first time I met you guys at Vin's bbq last year, a couple of you were checking the strut/tire gap on my 225's.

Unfortunately that car has since been wrecked and I realized now that I never took a straight on picture of it. Here is four pics but they are not with the wheels straight. If I get a chance I'll take some pics of the SC1 that has the same wheels/tires on it now and get a better straight on shot.

if you get the proper wheel offset and tire profile, you should be ok, but why bother? if you're racing in a straight line, it won't do you any good. too much tire to turn. if you're road racing or autocross, you'll get beat by cars with 205/50-15 tires all day long. if you're doing it for a show car, it might look cool, but is it really worth all the hassle?

i'm actually looking to see if a 13" rim will fit on my car. a buddy of mine has a set of 13" panasports with 225 hoosiers on them. he said i could test fit them on my car at our next event...
