  • Cutting Springs

So, the springs I was looking at buying... cant be sold anymore for some reason. So ima need a quick way to get some springs... so i was wondering something. First, will the springs from a 93 SL fit my 02 SC? if so, when i cut them and put em on new struts, will it be ok? I know it wont be perfect, but i dont wanna be riding around on a monster truck saturn for a llong time with my rims.

          and here is why.

You physically change the load capacities on the springs by removing the coils and you also will probably not be able to have the springs set exatly on the strut seat like they are supposed to. So one big bump and the spring comes off the strut and yeah, badtimes will follow.

^^ thats the answer i was lookin for. I "hear" bad things about cutting springs, but know alot of ppl that have done it and never had them 'come off' or anything like that. But the 'ricer bounce' is what i dont want. but thanks for making sure i dont cut this extra set... lol.

nearly as bad, can result in spring damage

either way you're throwing the rates and properties of the springs waaaay out of whack, it's not a good idea, don't do it

i know but the kid wants a drop.. the only other thing i would think of is adjustable struts and then screw them down to were you want them... or buy a lower set of springs and shim them... hell nascar does it.

Well, im gonna get some lowering springs... but now im not so sure how soon it will be. I know sometimes our cars look like bubba trucks when they have rims and arent lowered. I just gotta start lookin more now... and fast.

                          true story
when i bought my wagon it had 4 cut springs
                          cost me a tire
                          a tow
                          a fender
and four junkyard springs and struts
and scared the shit out of me [ not the springs coming out while im driving me not parking the car till i got safe springs]
like everyone else said "dont cut springs"
and you can get four from i forget where butyou can get a set of 4 for a resonable price on the internet , i should check on that now

Eibach is a very good company and make good quality springs. I always recommend Eibach or H&R to anyone. I have had a set of Eibach Pro-Kit springs on my SC2 for almost three years, they do not "slam" the car like the 2.5" kits but they offer a progressive spring rate.

I was surfin' ebay tonight and came across this auction for a pro-kit, incase you were interested. $175 (starting bid) +30 shipping. Could be a good deal.
