1) First get yourself a set fo cheap spark plugs.
I prefer the autolites. At about $1.09 a pop,
you can't go wrong....Get the proper heat range
your vehicle.
2)The next step is to open the gap....ALOT! As seen
here in these two pictures. I used the "key ring hole"
....know by few as its actual name, the "gap opener".

This is what your plugs should look like for the next step

3)The next step of the mod is to grind down the
point of the ground strap so that it is rounded, but be carful not to grind down the center electrode. You can use a vise and a hand-held file, a dremel and a smalle grinding stone, or what I used here:

Grind the tip back so that it is rounded like this:

4a) Next you want to use the other side of the grinder....the wire brush wheel.
This will help get ride of the sharp burrs and make it easier up the road for a future step. The step is not 100% nessary it just
speeds the next step up, if no bench grinder is available to you,
you can skip to the next step.

4b)Ok in this next step you are to take some
220-320 grit sand paper and smooth out the strap. I double the
paper over and hold each side...then just go back and forth
and move arounfd in different directions. This step is similar to
a shoe-shine shining a shoe

5)The next step to this is to bend the ground staps back. I use the vise, I have pretty good control and the mechanical advantage of it makes it cake work. After you get the strap about to where its suppose to be, use your gapping tool to set the plugs at the desired gap.

6)WHen its all done, the gound strap should only come over the center electode HALF WAY. The point of grinding the strap back is to get it out of the way fo the flame front. This will help direct the flame downward into the piston instead of outward to the sides.
This is what the finished product should resemble:

THE first 2 set of plugs you do should be on the old spark plugs. Get good at this before you move onto using new plugs.
