  • The never ending question

so I'll hopefully start slowly piecing together my turbo kit sometime this year. Now i'm trying to figure out which turbo is best for me. I'm looking for high numbers, at least into the 300s. I'm willing to spend the money if it means i'll be going faster. I've been looking around at a few different ones, mainly T3/T4's, and GT series, maybe a 30, but i don't really know the difference between the T3 series and GT series. Could someone give me some realistic HP numbers of what other saturns are putting out with which size turbos.

secondly i'm trying to see which fuel control will work best for me. I'm thinking about using an MS system, and i know the Haltech's are good, but know nothing about those.

so i'm just looking for some concrete advice here. thanks.

you're going to have to do alot of reading and research.
basically, i have a t3/t40e .48 exhaust, .50 compressor. you wouldn't want to go smaller than that to make 300. what really helps are ian's cams, and his intake manifold. you'll also need a nice flowing header. 3" exhaust.
gt series has better designed wheels, could also have ball bearing center sections as well.
i made about 350 with my setup when it was working right last summer. it was hard to keep it there though, as i had tuning problems and header cracking problems.

yeh, i'm def going with Ian's turbo cams, and most likely his manifold/throttle body combo. that might be put on after the intial set up though. I'll be going with Mike's shorty manifold and down pipe. and yeh if i go with the GT, i was gunna do the ball bearing. might go for the gusto and get a 35 dual BB.

sc61 stage 5 wheel is a good turbo to go with. its basically a t3/t4 with a gt35r compressor on it. honda guys make ~600whp with it and its pretty decent on low boost as well.

your going to need some engine stuff (rods, pistons, head studs, lower girtle) so don't forget to budget for it.

as far as fuel systems go, if you have money and you like haltech, look at the e8. from what i remember, it comes with the halwin software, which is a lot better and it has more options. e6 doesn't. e6 is the bottom of the barrel for fuel systems. it works, thats about it.

if you want somthing better, look at electromotive tec3r or autronic smc or sm4. i would have the autronic systems before anything else, but they are a little bit more expensive. smc would go for around $2000.

if you really want a mega squirt, your knowledge of efi and tuning is going to have to be a lot better. it always scares me when people are asking the simple questions and planning on using the mega squirt.

its a good system only to somone who actually knows whats going on (i'm not one of them). so if your unsure of fuel issues, make sure to just pay somone else to tune it the first time. you'll learn as you go.

on this subject I would just have to repeat evey thing TAB and Boostedsl2 just posted

about the only thing I can add is

to save your money and wate for guys selling out -or- paeting out there cars

this is one mager way to get some killer parts cheep

be on the look out for rods, pistons, gauges , full stand alone computers , turbo and maifold

if your willing to buy a gauge that is miss-maching this is ware you can save money

O yeah that turbo with plane bushings will be $800 cheeper than the BB

SC61 sounds like it could a good choice for me. I'll take a look at that.

I will be budgeting for a complete engine build up, but i'm still not sure what exactly the lower girtle is? i know i've read about it on qksltwo, but i don't know what it consists of.

when it comes to knowledge of fuel systems i'm pretty much in the dark. so i guess i'll be looking for something a little more user friendly than the MS.

and Teb, we just want u to fix it so it says BoostedSL2 instead of LS2

Really though, the SC's are great. If I would have ran across the deal that a couple people I know, I wold have gotten one. You can't beat 650 shipped (retail is $999).

I ordered from http://www.nolimitmotorsports.com , got mine for 849 shipped...SC's where the same price.

                            yeh, i was looking at pagparts.com. it's 825+shipping there

so, are any of you using the haltech system? if so, how difficult is it to setup and tune? i read a little on it and it says that the E8 also does engine controls as well as fuel control. should i try and use those functions as well?
