• Alternative Octane Boosters

here's an interesting article I found on TSN that discusses using Toulene as an octane booster. Sam I think you told me about this one a while back.

making this a sticky since it's pretty helpful

This should be in the TECH articles, and is a good read.

I had been meaning to ask in the tech section about octane ratings and fule boosters. At VIP we sell some NOS Racing formula stuff, supposed to add 7 points or something. Thought about trying it out.

I run 87 octane in the winter beater, but always put 89 in the Saturn. Maybe I will step it up a notch this year and maybe even try what this article suggest.

well, it wouldn't benefit a mainly stock LLO or L24.

but for those of us running higher compression or forced induction, it's something that would be good to know, hence it being in performance.

You gonna try it Schizzo? I bet you would benifit from it with your 11:1 CR

I might try it this summer at the track. I have heard of it before but that article cleared it all up.

Octane is over rated. I have been running 89 in mines.

I dunno, I wish I had a safc2 hooked up to monitor knock. I know it feels a little better when I use half 89 and half 93, but yet to try full 93. I don't know if I'd benefit enough to warrant going higher than 93 though.

Half 89 half 93? Why not just 91???

Besides that, I just try to avoid buying from cheap places. But Mobil and Exxon are so damn expensive.

down here the grades of gas are 87, 89, and 93. sunoco has unleaded 100 also, but nobody has 91 down here thank god.

I run daily on 89 anyway, but since this ecu is smarter than I give it credit for, it might note the change in knock status and alter timing enough. Lord knows I'm running rich enough, 12.8 was my last a/f at the dyno with the head on, but I have a feeling it leaned it out to 13 now as that was what my old a/f was.

Or maybe I'm just too happy with Turrrbooo's headwork

the bp's and shell stations should have 93.ive been runnin 93 for a while and i did notice a little difference.
i still laugh when someone says performance and saturn in the same sentence.

unless you've got a decent compression bump, running nitrous, or a turbo/supercharger, there's no reason to put anything above 87 octane in a twin cam or single cam Saturn. You won't do anything but waste money per gallon over.
