• i know we hate this topic but.....

im gonna run a zex wet 50 shot on my 95 sl2 five speed.... i know the setup and have no prob puttin in the nitrous and not frying my motor lol...the problem lies here...im scared the rev limiter will kick in if i miss a shift or am running at top speed, i dont want the limiter kicking in and filling my cylinder up with nos and then after 4 revolutions going BOOM...i did a manual swap from an auto and left the auto ecu in and i had no rev limiter, can i just get a auto ecu and put that in?

yep, you can get a 95 auto ecu and swap it in there and get the same effect. I"d go with an SC2 ecu to get the higher top speed if you're concerned.

you sound like you might want to go with a window switch as far as over-revving and hitting a limiter there (some report there is still a rev limiter even after the ecu swap). as far as the top speed limiter hitting, you have to find where yours is at, and then disarm prior to hitting that point.

I really hate when people refer to Nitrous as NOS

keep the ecu you have and just learn to PAY ATTENTION!!! you will have to have an arming switch somewhere inside the car so if you get going too fast in 5th, just turn it off.

you shouldnt have a rev limiter now, so just learn to lift off the throttle, shift, and then get back to wide open. it is not that difficult.

You know, I used to say the same thing about paying attention and such and then I fucked up during a race and had to rebuild the head after destroying some valves.

All I can say is WINDOW SWITCH. I consider myself a damn good driver, I race SCCA and the occasional street race lol. I know my car well but nobody is perfect all the time and it only takes ONE mistake to cause damage. Don't get cheap and get the window switch. Easy to install and easy to use, around 50 bucks for the analog or 90 for the digital. I went with the digital after the rebuild.

Just my opinion from a guy who was too cheap and very confident and still fucked it up.

you might try quickening your shift and see how much faster you get across the line
or you might take those 20s off, and see how much faster you get across the line

is there anything else that changes other than not having a rev limiter when you use an auto ecu, seems like a way to get around havin a aftermarket computer if you have an engine built up for higher rpms that still maintains the capability of the stock fuel systems

well, it controls the iac differently sometimes, making the car rev up and down a lot faster, it lights a service engine light, and it may or may not have better performing ignition timing and/or fuel tables. from my experience(a 97 sc2 auto pcm in my 96 sl2 manual) sometimes when i started the car up were different than other times. most times the revs were fast, and sometimes not. most timesthe rev limit was gone, and sometimes wasn't. but i dont think performance was altered eitehr way. also, the car surged as the guages dropped to 0 for split seconds at a time sometimes. carlton experienced it too in his 97 sc2. but we think it was just a problem with our particular computer. probably jayson's chrome spraypaint.
to answer your high rev question, it may or may not be possible to make any more power in higher rpms with the stock computer. i dont know how far up its programmed with fuel and spark, or at what point it levels off forever. also, my car fell on its face at 7,000-7,200 rpm and above. this is probably the cams, but i suppose it could be the timing. as for fuel, my wideband read it at the usual cylinderwashing rich.

i consider myself a good driver as well...ive been driving a manual since i was twelve, its like second nature to me. i just want the peace of mind that no limiter comes with WHEN i do fuck up

wats a window switch ive never heard of this... is is just a nitrous cutoff swich?

The easy way to explain it is:

You turn the system on stand by

then the window switch will activate it fully when it is at a desirable RPM (you choose this)

and it deactivates when u put it to too.

so the auto computer is definately not a good solid sourse of tuning out the rev limiter, if it kicks on sometimes and all that seems liek i definately wanna steer away from it

okay first off window switches and purges are for pussys. secondly my ecu swap has never had a misteries rev limiter out of nowhere and i have been running it for more than 2 years now.

when the ses light comes on it is suppost to richen up the fuel table to help do less damage to the engine if there was a problem. i find this to be a good thing with the n2o since i usually would rather a little rich verse lean.

zex is an excellent choice. there are so many features that the zex wet kit has . it has saved my engine a few times. i am on my second "brain" from so much use (that zex replaced for free) i might add.
