  • 6 puck clutch, sprung VS unsprung

Looking on some feedback on who has ran both preferably in a car making north of 300whp.

I'm about to purchase a new clutch disc and flywheel so I'm debating sprung or unsprung. 400whp is my goal, I've been driving around with an unsprung clutch for a while so I'm used to that, but wondering if one will hold better than the other. Unsprung is a just a tad cheaper which is cool, but if they engagement is that much smoother on the sprung and it will hold 400whp for some dyno pulls and track runs I'd probably go for that. I live in the city so I do deal with some traffic.

I have an unsprung. It's chattery but driveable after some getting used to.

My car isn't 400 though, it's at ~5psi right now so maybe 200 tops

I mean if both are equally comparable and will hold the power why not go with the sprung one? Unless the price difference is big enough to be a large factor

It's only like a $15 difference, so not a big deal. Just looking for some real world experience.

in my experience the spring is the first thing to fail. From the research ive done seems to be a common thing among others in the high HP club. I opted for unsprung this time, I got tired of springs popping out.

Having had a stock sprung clutch let go I went with the unsprung 6 puck when building my old green wagon. While it does take some getting used to in a daily driver, it isn't that bad, I'd install another one with a fidanza if I were to build another car, even at 200 hp.

Ok cool, I'll have to go for the unsprung in that case

Sean should weigh in on this, I think he might have more experience daily driving the unsprung 6 pucks

                  Less parts=more robust design.
All that being said, I run a sprung clutch in mine. Less drivetrain shock. Easier on the trans/diff in my mind.

95 SW1m: Dohc swap. DD. I can haz boost?

I'm running a sprung in the wagon now and wouldn't want any more chatter then it already has. That being said if it was for a non DD the unsprung does sound more durable as long as the trans and axles can take the hits.
