• ION RL???

Does the Ion Redline come with forged engine internals?

How much boost can the engine take stock?

I think I am going to go by the saturn dealership after work today and test drive one.

crank is forged, rods might be, pistons are not to my knowledge.

stop asking how much boost, that doesn't mean jack shit

eh, 12-15psi seems to be the norm

for a supercharged engine they're pretty damn linear as far as power, I'm impressed with them.

I've never had an Ion RL out but if they're anything like the Cobalt SS Supercharged, they're ass.

You mean that in a good way or a bad way? Like saying, "wow, that car is sick/bad/evil"??

I believe the aluminum block in the ION RL is similar to the one in the SKY RL (difference being the SKY is direct injected) and the SKY runs as much as 20 psi, so I'd venture to guess that the ION RL can hold that much as well. The Ecotec's are pretty beefy engine blocks, even if only some of the internals are forged.

well, I'd definitely not be concerned with bringing it up to and over the 300whp range with stock internals, I"ll tell you that much.

Sorry Boost was the wrong word, I probably should have used something more along the lines of stress or HP, which as I can see seems to be a lot more than I can achieve with my stock internals in my SC2.

well look at it this way scott, it's an engine built for forced induction, with a stronger valvetrain, and complete tunability. there are guys down here putting down over 250whp before even touching the exhaust side of things, including the super restrictive exhaust manifold.

BUT if you get one that has been "beat on" for lack of a better term, it might not be extremely reliable, so take that into consideration.

Are there certain things that I should check for when I am looking at them?

Are you planning to swap an LSJ into your SC2??

lol that would be cool but not practical. It would be eaiser to just go get a RL

OK, that's what I thought, just wanted to be sure, lol.

The main thing I would pay attention to is the clutch. I think for the most part you are going to find problems with the clutch long before you find problems with the engine itself.

Another option is to see if you can hook up with someone locally who has a Redline, and ask them to go with you. Or at the very least, ask them if you can hear how their car sounds when it runs. I don't know if there are any RL guys from MI on 6S, but I know there are a few over on redlineforums.com, so you could try finding someone in your area. Otherwise, go look at a bunch of different ones. If the one you settle on trying to get sounds or drives differently than the others, than you might want to get it checked out first.

or just bringing someone who knows about cars in general is better then bringing noone at all
