  • CAI on an automatic??....you say it cant be done??(56kdeth?)

welp...got a CP CAI for my b-day 3 days after xmas....my dad didnt realize it wont work on an auto....

    so we made it work....

you can see that instead of going past the crossmember on the engine side...we routed it over to the cooling fan side..you can see where we extended the braket to the battery tray as well

this is where it comes down

this is looking straight up at it

this is the passenger side of the splash shield(what its suppsed to look like)

and this is how much i had to cut away

and this is pretty much where it gets fresh air from...you can barely see the filter in the second shot

after we cut away enuf stuff to make room i made a sheild so its basicly protected from the spray from the wheel...

    so yeah....fun with intakes

*EDIT*....it should be of note that i have a 95 and newer style frame cradle..radiator...and cooling fan....and yes it makes a difference...if it wasnt for that it probly wouldnt have worked

IIrC the ones from Dr. Speeedy on ebay are a direct fit with an auto, although I could be off on that

ofn, I put the eclipse intake on my car when it was auto like 4 years ago.

but yeah, even the aem can be tweaked to fit too,.

That definately sucked Brian lol. I sold a customer a 2004 IQC (brand new) that had some mods to it including sprint springs and an AEM CAI. When I sold the car I told the guy to get a bypass valve and avoid water.

Two weeks later I get a call on a sunday after he tried to go through a "puddle" wich as you know in FLorida can be a lake lol. Hydrolocked a two week old Ecotec 2.2. When the tech pulled the head he called me back to see it. Lots o' water and three pistons up and one down and Saturn was not coverin shit lol. Good thing he had a good insurance company.

I've seen a guy make his own CAI for his automatic with piping from summit or something. It was routed pretty similarly to the AEM one too.
